LOL... He never portrays himself as someone who knows more than he does. He always gives full credit to the people who do the work and gives them time on camera - and he gets lots and lots of views, so it's not worthless. He acknowledges the fact that he's a doofus. But, to me, his passion for cars is real, and that's what I like about him and his videos. I know Anthony thinks very lowly of him, and that's completely fine. Not commenting to be argumentative - just saying - Hoovie seems like a good dude and I like his videos, too.

So the oil cooler overheating was the listed cause of the original M96 engine losing oil pressure? Hmm, there was another thread here somewhere discussing how Metzger has a patent on this specific oil cooler, right? Hoovie says that it’s a well known issue, but I’ve never heard about that before.

I kind of think that if you have a 996, you really like it, and you happen to blow the engine, it is cheaper to replace the engine than get another car. How many people would get another 996 or get a newer Porsche that would cost a lot more? And especially if you are in his line of work, doing the hybrid was a better call than finding a working stock motor.
But man, that is a big project.

Actually, due to the serious depreciation of the M96 based Porsche 996, it's cheaper to replace the car than it is to put a new M96 motor in it. Last time I looked, Porsche was charging more than $25,000 for a new M96 crate motor. However, you may be able to find a used motor for less than $10,000, but you're still in the same boat of wondering if you're going to have to rebuild it from scratch to avoid any problems which could make it fools errand. Hoovie bought something that seemed to be a bargain, but turned into a financial money pit because of the cost of modifying the car for the LS V8 motor. The car was probably better as a roller for someone needing parts. But to each his own. Thankfully Hoovie's story was very entertaining for us 996 folks.
