Default 996 TT clunking noise accelerating from stop

i'm a new guy in the forum.

bought a '04 996 TT cabrio last year with very low miles. love it!

i have a clunking noise coming from right under the driver seat (maybe under the center console) when starting from and stop and in 2nd gear. saw it on 924/944 forums but nothing on 996.

heading to favorite indy today to diagnose. anyone else have this?

Motor mounts was my first thought, but you said under the drivers seat, so I would also check to make sure your seat itself or the DME (or anything under your seat) isn't loose.

My thinking is that worn motor mounts might allow the motor/transmission/mount assembly to move fore and aft, (since is all bolted together as a unit) which may cause a thumping felt/heard where the front transmission bracketry bolts to the underside of the tunnel. It is all only connected to the chassis at three points - the two rear mounts and the front mount.

Really low miles. 12.5k. Would be surprised if anything is worn.

Age will deteriorate all rubber and plastic components...Don't rule anything out.

That's my thought too.

Right. The weight of the engine has been on those rubber mounts for years and years.

Here's what the motor mount looked like in my old Boxte' when I had it replaced:

Definitely a loud "thunk" when accelerating from a stop!

Fixed yesterday with an hour of labor at a trusted garage. Turned out to be loose coolant lines under the drive train from an earlier dealer repair on the clutch. Torqued a few other bolts for good measure and noise is gone.
