Default Window not dropping - motor/switch working!

morning,

passenger window doesn't drop when opening.

But, you can hear a motor work when you pull the door handle.
So the microswitch must be fine, and the window motor too
(can drop the window down all the was with the window opening switch!)

So before I strip apart the door panels!

There presumably is some problem with the glass attached to whatever mechanics there is?

any thought before I dive in! Want to be prepared with information to keep down time to a minimum!

thanks

tom

Sounds like a bad window regulator. This is common in the 996. Over time, the cables stretch out, producing the issue you describe. Can you manually push the window down when you open the door?

Window regulator - replace with an OE one. Not some cheap aftermarket one.

Yes, what he said as my friend went down the ebay path and that worked for about 3 months. OEM, you won't regret it.

Concur on the OEM. I tried an aftermarket one and ended up replacing it within weeks with a OEM. It's worth the additional cost to do it only once.

Don't forget to remove the "Boxster stops" when you install it!

What Dennis said! There are two stops that have to be removed so the window goes all the way down in a 996. I learned the hard way. Fortunately taking the door panel back off is not a big deal, and you can get to the stops without removing the regulator.
