The best option is to replace the HU with a Bluetooth enabled unit and run Spotify or Pandora if you want clean music. As Cuda mentioned, the antenna is located inside the glass which is not the best method. Heck, my GMC truck from 1986 has this method and it picked up a little better than the Porsche. ha!

Agreed. My 996 has the worst FM radio reception of any car I've owned. There is a Tech Service Bulletin on improving the AM radio reception by fixing a ground connection, but I don't think it applies to the FM.

I have had many cars with Antenna in the glass and I could never really tell a difference in reception.... but in my 996..... as stated above; worst ever!!! terrible! good thing I don't listen to the radio much (NPR on weekends)

- Porsche didn't bother to plug the antenna into the head unit when it was assembled.
- The last time the windshield was replaced, they didn't plug that end in.
- A replacement window without the built in antenna was installed (cheap insurance replacement).
- It's a day ending in Y.
We complained a couple of times about radio reception (it was still a thing in 2000!) and were told that yeah they just suck. Then when the head unit had to come out (they forgot to install the wire for the speed sensitive volume) they found that the antenna wasn't plugged in from the factory. Then reception sucked less.
Then we had a glass installer neglect to plug it in when they replaced the glass and reception went to **** again.
Have also heard stories about cheap replacement glass that doesn't even have the antenna in it.

I have an after-market head unit, and it was installed by a good shop. Was very disappointed that reception still sucked. Basically, unusable. I stream to it via I Heart Radio, and that works fine.
