Just drove a 2015 S4 and then my 996 back to back

Any car that makes a grown man scream like a 12 yo girl at a Justin Beevis concert must be some fun. Used prices are still quite high for one of those. Looks like fun! Did you have an employee co-pilot?

The average price of a used 12 years old Ferrari F430 is $120,000. The average price of a used 12 years old Porsche 996 is $30,000 if it's in mint condition.
So yea, I would expect the Ferrari to be a whole lot better. However if I take my $30,000 Porsche 996 and put $15,000 into it, I would be on that Ferrari's bumper at the track all day long, easily.
So there's that. Ferrari looks a whole lot better though.

think I'll rent the GTR next. They are having a sale on them and the price is hard to resist.

You can see by my nick where my allegiances lie.
The new Audis are stunning cars, beautifully crafted, engineered, and incredibly refined. The quattro drivetrains gives them traction second to none.
BUT: they are not engaging connected driver's cars. The steering is inert but accurate. They isolate you in comfort away from the road. They are amazing every day commuting cars.
But for the Thrill Of Driving, a 996 (in fact most Porsches) leave them wallowing behind - not on the road but in desirability for driving.
The ur quattro however.....

The E39 is a "ruins other cars" kind of car as well, the torque is absolutely corrupting. It's amazing how capable it is given the size and practicality.

I'm actually selling my E39 M5, replaced it with the 996. I've had nearly 3 years of loving that car - and the engine is a marvel alright!

My .02:
Audi S4 - great cruiser, OK track car. I can't see out of this thing. No matter how I adjust my seat, the front window is like a slit and the a-pillars are always just in the right place to not see the apex. In my town there is an S4 on every street corner. Nobody can tell the difference between an S4 and an A4 without looking hard at it.
Nobody looks at your Porsche and says: You know, you could have bought an Audi.

My daily driver is now a new Audi S8. 0-60mph in 3.5seconds.
It is the most powerful car I have driven.
It is cavernous inside but the car shrinks around you.
BUT - I MISS MY 996 EVERY DAY. I mean it. Every day.
Every TIME I see a 996 on the highway or gas station I pull up to it and stare at it wistfully.
Don't sell your 996.
(Unless it's for a 996 GT3 or 997 GT3 or 991 GT3)

But if you had a choice of both to take for a fang on your favourite piece of road..... there's the answer.

Heck, even in a trip to homedepot, I prefer the 996.
