Default Oil Change

I have a 2003 C4S. Does anyone have instructions, pictures of doing an oil change? Special filter wrench? One or two filters? Synthetic oil. What grade?

Can be done with no special tools, 10 qts of synthetic 5w 40 or 50 (check your manual for recommendations) a filter and plug crush ring. Do you have a lift? Using a jack? Do a search on jacking methods., Or pay the dealer $150 bucks to do the change for you for you.

Default I just did mine.

Piece of cake. Allen socket and oil filter remover. The oil change is as easy as changing oil on a Honda Accord. I found 0w40 MOBIL1 at Autozone in the Ghetto'est part of Oakland for only $4.39 / quart. Apparently No body buys these oils from them.

The only thing that scares me about doing it myself, is that I don't have a 12 quart catch pan. What do you guys use?

you can get a 12 quart catch pan from auto zone (if you have those in SF) or pretty much any auto parts store. i just bought a new one last week from auto zone for $7.

Uhhhh........I use a low profile 12 qt catch pan..........If I didn't have one, the thought of doing an oil change would "scare" me too......

Guess I would be equally "scared" if I didn't have a metric allen set.....

So to avoid being "scared", buy one of each when you get the oil and filter at NAPA, or wherever.....

get a topsider.. best $ u will spend. no need for jacking or messy pans or drips. in fact all mb dealers use topsiders when they change oils now.

The topsider is a great idea!

Will it work on an 03 turbo?

If so, Where is the oil access? My car does not have a dipStick. Would it be from the oil filler spout?

If you are in the San Jose area then you need to stop by when we have a work on cars day. Just last Saturday we did the 30 k service on a Boxster and 996 for the DVDs, including the oil change.

Topsider does not work on a Boxster. Never tried it on a 996. See no reason to as it is so easy to change the oil. Jeff

I don't like top siders... I've never used them, so maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to think that a small pump is not going to "suck" the settled debris out like a huge gush of a couple gallons of warm oil out the bottom will.

Toally agree with Scott... I like the idea of getting as much of the old oil out as possible when the engine is nice and warm so the gush of oil can hopefully take any small metal particle with....

I just don't see how a topsider can get all the old oil out... at least not as well a draining from the bottom.... ya gotta get under there to do the filter anyway !!!!!
