I think this is the splitter you want. Its almost impossible to find and was lucky enough to find an extra one so that I can replace if anything happens to the old one. Let me dig it out and see if I can find a pn number on it. While the one on my car is black, my extra one that needs to be painted since it is a gray color.
This is the one I have as well. Auto Atlanta may have some.
thanks for that. so i'll show off my lack of ability to distinguish between the mk1 areo cars and the mk2 aero cars yet. I assume the yellow one you posted is yours? is that an mk1 like my 99, or is it a later mk2?
from what i think im finding searching this, this is the later model, which i seem to have read can be made to fit with some trimming?
I also found these posts discussing these as well. and showing them together.
one other note...I put on a mkII bumper on the rear instead of the spatulas and it completely changed the look of the car as you can see below. The rockers flow nicely into the features of the new bumper. Also, clear front headlights would really clean up the front of the car as well.
oh believe me, i know the headlights would. as well as the taillights. i wish they werent so dang much just to change that! eventually it will happen, just going to take me a bit.
I design and build motorcycle/cars pretty much as a living (may not seem like it since i work in a motorcycle shop slinging parts, but i redesign alot of things from the ground up for people. its all about how things flow, and where your eye is drawn) I am VERY particular
I have enclosed a side by side with my car with MkII bumper next to black car with MkI though it is hard to see so I have also enclosed a picture of my car when it had a MkI bumper. The MkII bumper is much fuller with the nicer lower feature below the license plate. Makes the car look much wider and less like a jelly bean. The nice thing is that feature below the plate flows nicely into the rockers.
Thanks, that is the nickname my friends use for the car and as such the great guys at Eastside Auto Salon surprised me when I had XPEL put on the freshly repainted car. It is now there for good :-)
Thanks for the responses. It gets me aimed in the right direction. Still unsure of exactly what route I'm going to go, but I have more info which is very helpful!
This is the part number for the factory splitter if you have an Aero bumper. It is attached with plastic pins that mount through the bottom of the bumper cover.
996-505-986-00
Thank you for this. I just ordered it. After watching this youtube vid, I just had to have one.
I ordered that part, as mentioned in the post above, from Pelican Parts, and I received an email that it doesn't fit my car. My order was cancelled by them. Apparently, that part does not fit a 2001 Aero? Any ideas? Thank you.
The bumper cover you have highlighted is a standard cover. The Aerokit 1 bumper is 996-505-980-02 G2-X. The lip 996-505-986-00 only fits the Aerokit 1 bumper.
