power steering groan
MY97 993TT...
Okay, I've had this wonderful auto for about 1500 miles now. I checked 993faq and searched the forums (learned lots about 924/944...).
Is the power steering pump really supposed to make an agonizing groan? Reminds me of a diving submarine. It just came out of the shop, and I'd like to think they would have spoken up if something were out of whack, but you never know.
Please bear with the newbie.
Thanks.

Oh no. The engine compartment. I hope adding power steering fluid doesn't require the same degree of legerdemain as removing the oil cap.
At least I'm not groaning alone. Aside from adding fluid that meets the stated specs, are there any brand/etc. preferences for power steering fluid?

I had the "groan" and drained the old dirty fluid, and put fresh pentosin fluid in. Noise went away, maybe I got lucky as the old fluid was never low. But been fine since - been about one year now.

Checked both reservoirs per the manual. Interestingly, my groan is lessened now that I tightened the mounting bracket for the front reservoir.
My question for the experts comes from this: In the front, I'm a shade aboce the max indicator. However, in the rear, I'm not getting any fluid reading on the dipstick. Checked several times, too.
Anybody see anything similar? Do I have a blockage?

The front reservoir is for your back up clutch system. The rear one runs your power steering and clutch assist. If the dipstick shows low, put in Pentosin until the appropriate level is shown(what a concept). The two reservoirs are not interconnected.
