Yes, but the 991 isn't irreplaceable, the 993tt is unfortunately.

Not that I'm placing it in the same company but look at the F40 for comparisons sake. Obviously, the F40 is worlds away in price (they STARTED out in $400k realm when new which is over $800k in today's dollar). No one bats an eyelash at the $1 million plus transaction prices for even the well worn examples. Over 1,300 were made, or 7 times the production numbers for 993 Turbo S models. You could fill a freight elevator in the plant I'm currently working at with all of the 993 Turbo S owners. Top dog Porsche of its time: check, last air cooled Porsche Turbo model: check, very very limited numbers: check. Adds up to me.
Yeah, there are "pockets" of pricing bubbles sprinkled throughout the air cooled world; unnaturally inflated by the true blue chip cars. It's obviously my opinion, but I don't count the Turbo S as a bubble.
I agree with your assessment of "supply and demand" in comparison to the F40 BUT...... The turbo S is still a 993 and there were 10's of thousands of 993's built. There were only 1300 F40's built. I think you're comparing apples and oranges.

In a straight up comparison, of course it's apples to oranges but take into context my earlier statements, in THIS 993 market exclusivity is measured in the most finite details. Guys will fall over themselves to get a car with a couple of options that don't necessarily add to the driving experience in any measurable way but are deemed highly desirable by the community at large. In that context, one can't get much more exclusive than a 993 turbo S, at least in the U.S. where we didn't get the RS or GT2.

The thread is clearly titled. You didn't have to click on it.

I agree but I think that view of it only lends to the idea that one must be extremely knowledgeable to understand the 993 market. Very few know what a 993 Turbo S is. Everyone knows what an F40 is.

The 993 is following the same trend as every other collectible thing on the planet right now. It's all gone way up in value. But the collectible car market historically has severe ups and downs.

oh you mean like the "car enthusiasts" around here who care more about the value of their car at the close of trading than learning anything about how it works or, you know, driving it.

1- Like you don't care about the value of your car...
2- Your looking at one thread, there's a lot more, so look at the forest instead of one single tree.
3- It's only stupid cars anyway, so calm down.

1. Nope, I don't care. Its got 95k miles on it and i don't plan on selling it, so it doesn't matter.

2. Your experience of what, 3 months tells you that, huh? There are hardly ever new posts in here, and lately all its been is value this, look at whats for sale that, etc.

3. I'm plenty calm. And I agree, they are cars, not investments.

I'm not planning on selling either quad but insurance makes this important. Many are having trouble getting coverage anywhere close to these crazy asking prices, particularly in Canada when you have to add on 25% currency +6% duty, etc. I'll be popping the champers when this bubble bursts and I can get back to full replacement coverage at half the cost.
