turbo values
With the spike in turbo values, is anybody driving these things anymore?
To buy a really nice turbo is $150k + Anybody buying them to drive other then the odd sunday? |
Keep things in perspective. A very nice new 991S is $150 now. A new Turbo is $200. I see people driving those everyday.

The difference is people are expecting a new car to depreciate rapidly. Owners and buyers of 993TT's are now used to seeing the values going up.
Your house is going up in value, and you still live there, enjoy it, and even entertain guests who spill drinks and where high heeled shoes on hardwood floors. :) But I fully understand and see your predicament. Hey, it's tough being a 1%'er.:):) |
I am looking at two turbos this week and they are both low miles and very expensive....
Almost a little too expensive  |
Driving them is half the fun, cause I'll be damned that after spending quality time to change the oil I'm not going to drive it. Plus, nothing like the go pedal and Fisters to add smiles for the miles.

I just sold my 16k mile pristine example because the value of the car was directly attributed to it's original, unblemished condition. No paint work, no accidents. If ANYTHING were to happen to it, my fault or otherwise, goodbye value. It's a shame it's come to this. I don't like dust collectors, garage queens, so away she went.

I didn't wait 18+ years to own my dream car just to look at it in my garage that's for sure. That being said, I bought it to enjoy during summer months and had always planned to only drive it a few thousand miles a year. It's still sitting in storage for a few more weeks and I can't wait to get it back! I plan to pass this car down to my kids when I'm too old to enjoy it so the only reason why I follow market values is to stay up on my insurance agreed values.

I do tend not to drive it as much. Mine has 64k miles and I tend to drive the 964 Cabrio more often as I don't feel as guilty. Hell, my brother flew out here this past summer during Monterey Historic's at Laguna Seca and I trailered the car there (150 miles each way) as I didn't want to put on the additional mileage.
It has sat under the cover for the past year getting the drive every 6 weeks or so when there is a cars & coffee or something with the PCA that I want to join. I truly love this car but I do see me driving it less due to values. I agree with the home analogy but I don't care about my home as much as the car that I've wanted since I was old enough to know what it was and be influenced in the direction of Porsche from family. It still gives me the chills every once in awhile when I drive it the right way... Cheers, Bryan |
I'm not put off by the values vs usage. My lightly modified TT gets driven much more than my low mile stock TT. Just trying to minimize my exposure while still enjoying myself.

Well, when you have two you don't have the ability to feel like we do.. hahaha
Of course, if I had two of them one would be a 3.8 GT2 tribute and crazy modded. With only having one I must think differently. I will mod my Cayenne or 964.. but I'm not touching that 993, unfortunately. |
