Default 1997 Turbo, 1005 Miles, $398,888!

Fair price for such a car? Sadly, this car's value is based upon the small number of miles driven. If I was the Dealership I would wait til Pebble Beach and put her up for Auction. RM, Bonham's et al, just pick the Auction. That would give the real market Value for this car. If this was an 993 Turbo S on the other hand I would say absolutely.

Any thoughts?

Yes. Here in Westlake. I saw it from the 101 the other week sitting inside showroom. Though I had thought I read a cryptic post here on Rennlist that it sold for $375k. Can't remember what thread that was on. Seems a bit optimistic.

I also saw it through the window at Rusnak. Looks brand new.

The red Turbo S was $375, now at Milpas Motors for $399. Not sure if Rusnak bought it.

Yah for sure, if it was an S model with that many miles and if I was a collector I would say that is about fair price - but who knows? Something like this car should be sold at auction and even at that if this car was an S that price is Optimistic!

Prices are going really crazy on these cars. A friend from Europe told me there are no 97 turbos there for less than 180K Euros. I don't see the TurboS as the crown car for the last of the air cooled Porsches. Seems that for a while now, that the 97 turbo is the popular choice. Sometimes it is not only about production and HP. I believe some 97s came from factory optioned at 450 HP, way more than the Turbo Ss, that had only a few HP more than the regular turbo, if I remember it right, +14 HP was the number. It is hard to keep a car that age healthy with such low mileage. At best, lots of Idle warm ups, which is not the best practice. You will need a Porsche Museum like ability to take care of the engine, transmission and others later on. Even if the car is kept dry, I am not sure if that is healthy...
For my personal taste, I like the looks of the regular turbo better. For production figures and HP, the GT2 is the King, but with current 97 prices, they are already beating some GT2s... For me, I would take a GT2, white. OK, lets not argue, lets make a gt2 white and a 97 black. Any mileage.

Chicabum, there is not a 993 Turbo on earth that can trade for anywhere near the current pricing of a 993 GT2. In fact, you can buy at least two of the best 993 Turbo's extant and still be below the cost of any GT2 Strasse today.

secretcollector , I tried to do a quick search, but the GT2s are rare to find…
I Found an article in the Los Angeles Times about a 1996 Porsche 993 GT2 estimated by Gooding & Co. at $475,000 - $575,000 on the pre-sale that sold for $506,000 at the 2013 Pebble Beach Auction and two reported but unconfirmed in Europe, one in 2013 for $ 180,000 Euros and the other in 2014 for $400,000 Euros. I didn’t find any sold in 2015. With the 97 one on this thread at $398,888!!!! I would say it is close enough, but I think that more than double what a 993T trades for for a GT2 seems to be a "reasonable" price point. I can't believe I just said that . I never heard before of a 993T selling so high as this one. About current asking prices and guestimates, I heard of prices close to a million for a GT2. Unbelievable. Apart these two cars that are obviously special, reason and logic are things I no longer see on the current asking prices for Porsches. If you know about other sales of GT2s, please share, I would love to know about it.

The 2013 Gooding car was a race car, which are worth considerably less than the Strasse (street) versions. I don't believe the 2014 sale prices you quote for one second (I believe someone told you about them but they could be no more than race tubs at those levels).

There were only 193 Strasse built - the few that trade hands tend to do so privately. I can only say that I'm very close to that market and know what they trade for today, which is 4,5,6 times a standard 993TT.

Here is a German Stasse GT2 for 800K Euro's. So indeed about 4 - 5 times the price of a TT. Nice car

The Gt2 from Carlos993 post is beautiful. If Gooding is estimating the car at $950,000 - $1,250,000 for Amelia Island 2015, I would be surprised if the car goes for less than 1,000,000. Prices are really high. I didn't know the 2013 Gooding car was a race car, and I don't know if the Euro cars I mentioned are Street or race, but depending on when the 2014 was sold, 400,000 Euros is considerably more than what the 2013 Gooding car sold for. Pretty believable to me. Anyway, that was then, seems now that the prices went way up. Since I like to drive the cars and I am not a race car driver, for me a Street should be more expensive than a race car. secretcollector, what do you think is the range for a race gt2 now? Also, the Gooding link from Carlos 993 stated " 57 Road-Going 993 GT2s Ever Built" but I have different figures at 172 between 1995 and 1997 and 34 Evos for 1998, Strret and race combined. Do you the know the correct figures? Keeping in the scope of the thread, I believe that if the Gooding car at Amelia Island 2015 confirms the estimates, than $398,888 for a 1005 miles 1997 993 Turbo should be a fair price.
