#6 is tough for sure but I'd take that over #5 any day, hate that one.

I change my oil + both filters every 6000 miles, 15/50 grade.

Yeah, I was tossing up either 5 or 6. Both done by braile and prolific profanity. 15/50????? You guys aren't using v-twin 20/50?

Wait a minute so you mean to tell me that the proper procedure to replace the air filter is to remove the intercooler??? It's not a big deal to take the intercooler off.... but really?

You know to the layperson that may sound ridiculous but it's just par for the course I think with these cars. Sincere thanks though I will do that the next time.

Imagine just saying that in Pleasant conversation "well I have to change the air filter so I'm going to remove the intercooler. And after that I'm going to change the oil so of course I have to take the rear wheel off"

I suppose it's the quirky charm of these unique cars but it does border on the absurd sometimes

"Wait a minute" I thought I have to pull intercooler to change the DME relay in the frunk. :-). I think the only time I did just about anything with the intercooler in place, was the motor mounts.

I try to remove the IC as little as possible.

Taking the airfilter out is no big deal with IC in place.

getting the stock motor mounts with the IC in place was a bitch.

I'm still in therapy trying to forget that spark plug change. what a mess that was.

Not sure why you guys are worried about pulling the IC? Its only a few bolts and clamps and takes like 5 minutes - and it makes working on the engine much easier. I will admit it does add a bit of wear/tear on the intercooler hoses and gaskets though.

Thanks LexVan.

I was running thinner oil probably 10w-40 for the first two periods. The short mileage was for a flush. An independent Porsche person put them in and never mentioned 15w or 20w oils.

The oil that came with the car had been in it a long time (too long) and very dirty. I can only hope that that oil is still being flushed through it too with some of the high metal levels mentioned

On the note of flushing as much oil as possible. Would it help substantially to get the front end up higher than the rear, so gravity could drain more of the lines?

I'm a pro at pulling the IC now. With the S-Cargo hoses, it's much less wear as they are thicker and don't appear to be fatiguing like the standard hoses do. I used to have to wrench the clamps down on the standard hoses to try and keep them from blowing off. Haven't had that problem since.

Do you have access to a crane?

I actually love these things right here. I notched the corners and they fit up into the cups. I was hoping if I jacked these up a bit, maybe have front 8-12" higher than rear, it may help get a bit more oil out. Just didn't want to waste the effort of trying it if it's not really gonna produce results.Name: image.jpg
