First I was starting with a car that had 4 ecus in it before I got it. So there was no factory wiring anywhere or factory sensors. I found clewett and am buying the cam sensor that goes on the end of the cam itself for the cam signal. The car had the cam and crank signal wired together on one sensor that ran off a 12 tooth crank pulley which was worthless! So I am having them not use the hacked up crank pulley at all and move crank sensor to the LW flywheel. I hope its a 60-2 flywheel but not sure yet. Then with those 2 in place the AEM should be able to tune. Or I can put a distributer back into the car that would be easier to get the cam signal?

I'm amazed they removed the factory wiring. Some of the wire that come from the engine compartment go to the Central informer and control gauges and such.
Do all the gauges work?
To put the distributor back in will take an hour or so. To add a cam sensor on the back of the cam requires the engine to come out.
Here's what you should do.
verify the flywheel is a 60-2 then use the factory crank sensor than drop the distributor in for the cam. On the driver side, in the engine compartment there's a pass thru to bring the wires in the cabin. At this point don spend allot of time making things look nice. Run the base program and hope for the best.
BTW have you done a leak down on the engine? This should be your first step.

Well after looking at the car from underneath the shop found a clewett cam sensor on the cam so that saved me $190. But it just shows the shop has no clue. I will go the route of flywheel for crank sensor even though the shop said they can use the 12 tooth crank pulley. I assume they are wrong since nothing so far has been right. So you suggest a leak down on each cylinder? Explain to me how they should do that? Just take out one plug and compression test it and just do that all around? Thanks for the help and the shop needs the help too.

Considering your situation with this car you should start with a leak test.
For our cars, a healthy engine should be around 5% on all cylinders.

What are they smoking? You cannot get cam position from the crankshaft on a 4-stroke engine no matter how many teeth the wheel has...that is the most basic stuff any engine tuner/builder needs to know.
Controlling the engine is very simple, a knowledgeable shop will check your system in a matter of 1-2 hours and can say wether you have a problem in your ECU, wiring, mapping or engine itself. It is really not that difficult.
EDIT: Oops...I realised this was an old thread...was looking for info on E85 use on 993tt.

Got the car back home
I took it out of that shop. I agree have to do compression and leak down test first. Looks like wiring is an issue and if you jiggle the wires the loose connection to ecu. Im going to test motor then hopefully its good, then drop motor and replace leaky valve cover gaskets etc. Wish I had a good shop that knows these cars in and out!

This week I should be getting the car. No motor drop needed, wires were shielded and now its running. Got to get the car tuned this week and should be good to go.
