I was actually talking about Turbo -> GT3, not the other way around, but of course, there would be movement both ways!

Not any fault of yours at all, it was mistakenly written ambiguous (due to my lack of skill ..haha)

Your move from a GT3 to a TT is an interesting topic that I know we had a thread about it somewhere - it's the counter to a lot of talk here locally about "jumping" to a GT3, where the perception that move is a no brainer given the GT3 is so "superior" - with the focus being a 997.2 GT3. Mind you, your "TT" is no ordinary TT, so that definitely comes into the discussion.

I will admit to that temptation as well, but given the TT is plenty fast for me, and has a lot of other classic features and I can maintain everything on it myself, it's staying in my garage for now.

I sold the 97' in my avatar last summer for 82.5. It had 28K miles, fresh top end from great shop, new windshield and rear window as a result of a vandal. zero rust anywhere. My 991 has gone down in value about 35K, while the 993tt has gone up what? 40K is my guess. I'm feeling pretty stupid, especially after owning so many Porsches for so many years. I'm thinking tulip bulbs, which made many rich, you just needed to sell in time.

 

Well, you are not the only one who has sunk $$$ into Porsches and cars, so perhaps misery makes good company. :-)

Now that you have had the 991 for 6 months, what are your impressions? The good and bad?

Nice to hear from you. You are one of the most valuable contributors to this forum. If I might be indulged to make an analogy as an answer. I have spent my life in boats, I've owned boat yards and marinas. I am now retired and own a sailboat that is moored in front of my house. It was designed by Nat Herreshoff 100 years ago. It is beautiful beyond belief. It is not a state of the art performance boat, but it is a fabulous performer nonetheless. And so it is with the 993tt. It is no longer the cutting edge super car, but to my mind it is the most beautiful Porsche road car ever produced. I wish I had sold the 991S instead of the 993tt. I used to sit in my garage with a martini and just stare at the 993tt and my Ducati 750 bevel drive jewel. My answer as pertains to the 991S is this. It is faster than the turbo, but doesn't have the low end torque. It has handling limits that are just astounding. It is a GT car with ample luxury at the speeds most of us must drive, but when pushed hard its limits are way above the tt and most other cars on the planet. I am confident that the 991 would blow the tt away on the track. It has a fabulous sound system and all kinds of computer stuff that will save me from my incompetence. That it gets 30mpg on trips is meaningless, but worth mentioning. Because of some health issues, I have to give up motorcycles. (I have been riding for 53 years, and owned 37 bikes). Because of this I wanted a Cab. The 991 Cab is really amazing. As quiet as a coupe with top up, with the open air experience of the Cab. An unbelievable car by any measure, but just like the sailboat from 100 years ago that I am looking at as I type this, I would trade this this modern marvel for what I foolishly sold last summer. I hope that answers your question Mike.

you are so right in saying this.
I really hate being on outside of the 993TT.
I had a chance at a 12k mile 96TT in march 2013 for 90k and i turned it down

That is what i paid for my .1RS in 2010 with 14k miles!

Now im chasing a climbing market for a 993TT!

 

993TT is a P car classic and market values are reflecting same... for now.
I'm holding mine regardless of what happens.

 

Bought for the enjoyment, not the investment, waited along time to make it to a point in life where I could buy the one I wanted. Glad I got it when I did, given the market surge of late.

No plans on selling, so just enjoying the car(e)taker role. Profit is for the distant future for much older me or others to enjoy.

This is pretty much how I feel about both my cars. I've been around Porsches for a few decades and when the 993 TT came out I knew I wanted one. It took me almost 15 years to be able to afford one and I got almost exactly what I wanted. While its nice that the thing has appreciated since I bought it, I really don't care. I still get a giant smile on my face when I drive it.

My other car is a 72 911 that I've been collecting parts for for longer than I can remember. It'll be modified pretty heavily when its done. It wont be original and it wont win a concourse but it'll be the car I wanted to build.

I've had lots of Porsches over the years and the only one I regret getting rid of was my first one. A '71 914. i guess technically I didn't get rid of it, I crashed it pretty spectacularly and parted it out.

I'll eventually get rid of the 993TT but not for the foreseeable future so let the market do whatever it wants.
