Default 993 turbo - a run out

My 993 has been pretty much retired for the last 5 years, sitting in the garage. With my 7GT2 being under the knife and a rather special airfield event coming up I dusted the 993 off, a spanner check and an oil change, road tax insurance etc. The tyres were 6 years old so I put on some new Michelin PS2 N3s which I have to say totally transformed the car.
At the airfield the car was flawless, 1,5 miles of flat out 577hp Mezger magic, it was classic to see the faces of Mclaren driver, 997GT2, 997.2 turboS, 991 turbo S, various new Ferraris - all were left in the wake

As the day wore on we were hitting the rev limiter 201mph GPS some 200 metres before the timing beams, with slightly longer gearing I reckon 204mph would have been possible.

Probably lost a few mph due to that massive tail.

What a fantastic shot and results!!! Great job. I just did a 1/2 mile with my stock 993TT a couple weeks ago and had a blast. I only was able to get 139.8 but still a fun day... you were definitely not messing around thats for sure.

so ps2 N3, 295/30? in the rear, if you went to the 315, you'd get another couple of miles per hour I think..

I made a bit of an "error" when I had the arches put on, the body guy positioned them to fit very snugly with this wheel/tyre combination which is stock sizes ie 285/30 rear, I did once try to fit 993GT2 size on the rear ie 285/35 but they rubbed so I am stuck with these sizes unless I change the offset of the wheels (they are factory GT2 offsets and sizes) which I can't really be bothered to do.

I am a bit puzzled with how fast it went, I seem to remember the last time I had it on the airfield I was managing about 196mph and that was with the turbo S rear wing...

We had a steady 20mph tailwind and I had shaved the gutters with flush rear screen (with rear wiper delete) since the 196mph runs (see pic below) I had actually fabricated some flat blanks to cover the GT2 wing air intakes as I really didn't expect to be running into the limiter - It was funny, Todd Knighton was there (meeting him was quite an honour for an anorak like me) and we were joking that he should hack into my RS program and raise the rev limit a bit

BTW is anyone else running these N3 Michelin PS2s ? I could not believe how much they changed the car, they were so sticky, comfortable, quite quiet and gave awesome grip for acceleration, best "mod" ever !

I was one of the 997.2 turbo S drivers surprised by the blue bi-planed bomber

Thought I would hold TB till around 150 or so with pdk / launch and all the modern tech, in reality once past 100 the RS ponies became very evident !

Was awesome to see the 993 back on the strip and doing the business.

A very fun day

I'm sure the improved aero helped at those speeds. What did mr Knighton say about your car?

I'm pretty sure my car accelerated faster using stock tires vs larger dia ones, interesting to see what happens a max speeds. Next track day is sat, should be the first dry day (if the forecast holds up) with the andial motor, looking forward to logging some data!

Why is the steering wheel on the wrong side? Great car. I took my 993 out today for a little run. The car still amazes me. What a fantastic automobile. I'm glad to see there are still some of us who drive them

We lined up against a standard 997GT2, these are still v fast as standard and was hitting 197mph at the measuring point.
I didn't really discuss my 993 with Todd, he was there enjoying the spectacle of so many exotic cars.
