Default Tranny cooler

Have any of you installed a trans cooler system? I have thought of it for some time and would like input on what may have been used, method, mounting and function. Kevin gave me some great insight but thought I'd see what experience can reveal.
Thanks

I might be mistaken but I think trans coolers are only for automatic (torque converter) cars.

No there are ways of running an oil cooler for the trans. I was just hoping someone who has done it could give me some suggestions. If no further replies then I'll follow Kevins recommendation on how to go about it. Was just hoping for a pool of help to chose which route/options.

What gains can be realized with a manual transmission oil cooler in street trim. Do they get that hot? I get it is a transaxle with a marginal at best LSD but really, what are the gains?

Our trans fluids get very hot during track use just like engine oil. Anything above 300 is a problem and anyone who drives a highly modified tt quickly can see that temp on a hot day. For most a typical 30min DE session most won't see above 225 or 250 so its not worth the hassle or weight for most folks.

I have a cooler mounted behind the 2nd oil cooler in the front and it comes on at 220 via a spal thermostat tapped into the case. Lines are routed via the heater duct and uses a tilton pump with a filter. It's plumbed from the stock drain point and returns on the top of the case on the diff.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks Spartan, that's what I was looking for. Kevin suggested tapping differential side cover, over using drain port. He advised the possibility of it getting ripped off at some point was to high. Can you say what depth the fittings are the drain port? I'd like to have an idea of how low it does protrude. Would rather use existing ports as opposed to drilling cover. Thanks again for any help.

My mission is to try and address what could be potential failing points. I would rather over engineer something and have to much, than be at a point not having enough. Pretty much preventative measure. It's not a full track beast but it is driven close to its full potential on a regular basis. Heat kills EVERYTHING. If I can dish out some funds now and add a layer of protection, I might be able to avert having to rebuild my trans for probably ten fold more.
It's also my modaholic problem. I do it to my house, cars, guns etc.....

There's a thread by Geoffrey? who has a 964 race car that has pictures of a banjo fitting on the trans drain for his cooler, I'll try to find it.

Here's how it is setup on the factory GT2 race cars.
The photos are of my G50/54 racing box. The lump on the side of the gearbox is the pump which is driven off the main shaft.
I don't think there is any thermostat so the oil just circulates through the cooler whenever the mainshaft is turning (i.e. when the car is moving).
