Like the title says, I'm trying to figure out whether it would be better for me to buy a rolling 993tt chassis and build it or if i should just start from a working 993tt and build it from there.

My goal would be to have the car at around 450-500whp and be around 2800lb(preferably less). I'd like to have a GT2 look, put in racing seats, a half cage, and obviously strip out most of the interior.

I have a general idea on all the parts costs except for the engine modifications that will take for the motor to get to 450-500whp. So I'm curious about those costs and parts needed.

I'm also curious if the 993tt motor will even fit into a NB chassis....that would obviously help me rule out that option.

I'm sorry that this post seems "spacey".....it's been a long day haha

I should note that if I were to buy the rolling chassis, I would be swapping in a G50 transmission.

I would also be using KW clubsport coilovers for both cars, and using a few OEM GT2 suspension bits.

I also would like to have the car be RWD if I were to buy a 993tt .

I'll start:
1). the 993TT engine is a "bolt-in" to a narrow body. Of course you'll need the carrier and ECU and wiring harness.
2). 450-500 Whp? you'll need at least 500 engine HP to get there. Ruf gets there with changes to the turbos, cams, and ECU programming. You'll also need a big fat oil cooler. To get more HP, you may have to consider 3.8 pistons/cylinders, stronger connecting rods, flame ringed heads, and more.
3). Removing the AWD is fairly common, and a good way to save weight. There are "kits" that do that.

Despite the fact that I've done most everything you suggest in your query ,I would offer the GT2 bodystarts with the wide body TT or C2S /C4S chassis.
Others have started with the narrow body C2 but it requires altering or obtaining the entire rear quarter.
Weather it's more economical one way or the other is debateable but I imagine just depends on what you have or can reasonably get your hands on as a starting point.
another worthwhile debate is what detriment to the value of said chassis would be in turning it into a
GT ,but hey if it's what you want and you don't start with a pristine example possibly that won't matter.
There's plenty of info on the TT forum on past conversions, mine included,alot of us and others have
opted to go RWD ,it's not difficult and factory parts complete the conversion.

In addition to the comments above, I thought the TT engine sits farther back than the NA 993s. Need to mod the tranny to get it fit. There is a great article in Excellence a while back from a guy who turned his 993C4 convertible into a turbo.

Would you know how much weight you'd save on this mod?

I think you could achieve strong power with 3.6, lots of strong ones running out there, just my .02

I have differential, half shafts and the drive shaft in my basement. It probably weighs approx 60-70lbs total.

i dropped 93 pounds converting from AWD to RWD, but did not remove viscous coupling from tranny.

i removed;
front 1/2 shafts
big black tube / driveshaft
front differential

hmmmmmmm not much else

Have you ever thought about bidding for a wrecked 993 TT against the likes of LA Dismantlers (etc) ? The insurance companies will sell to the highest bidder ( I would think). Copart used to have a salvage wrecked Silver 993 TT but bids always were regected at 25000$ and it was relisted. A flood damaged NJ salavge title (was mint) '96 TT went for $47k$ earlier this year.

sounds like a fun project.... i think starting with a wreck tt would be a better bet
