I spoke to an owner of a CA smogged real 959 that Canepa helped get registered and the mods from what I understand are very minor(something like ECU tuning and a couple other minor changes). However what is done really wakes up the hidden potential that is in that car. Apparently Porsche left a lot to be discovered ;-) So I wouldn't be concerned over the mods that were done...and if you live in the states you'd probably appreciate the ability to drive the car if wanted to your local Coffee & Cars events etc.
As far as why SOHC 2 vales...I'd say production costs. Porsche only needed to make 400hp...no need for anything fancy. Why not keep costs down as the customers won't complain anyway because the 993tt was such a change from the 964t. Just my thoughts on that.

A couple of pals bought two of these when new in '88, the sequential turbo set up meant these felt mega laggy, like nothing from the smaller turbo then a wallop when the big one came in.. The 993 turbo really built on the 959 concept and is better in every way with the Schmirler pioneered two parallel turbo set up proving to be superior with more modern blowers and electronics.
My engine builder owns one now and they look really old compared to 993s and the parts costs are crazy.

Yeah, and it just sort of seems if you remove the sequential turbos, even if you are making it 'better', you're changing the character of the car. Maybe the turbos on the 288 GTO should be modded too . . .
But what do I know. It's up to the people who can afford these things not me. Porsche should have made more.
"Show and Display" rules are a bit murky to me. Isn't annual mileage limited to 2500miles? I see it working at a Federal level but CARB compliance is another issue that I'm confused how that works. And what is more the 959 is getting close to the 25 year exemption from all the Fed rules.

Price wise? Way too much at this time...then again who knows someone may step up to the plate...it is a gorgeous car

Give that the 25-year rule covers most of them today, I'd want unmolested. And if I stumbled across a perfect one that wasn't quite eligible, I'd find a place to store it for a year.

I love the idea of what this car did for the technology for Porsche, and it's historical significance, but the looks to me are way more dated than the 993 - maybe its the wheels, or the heavy sills, not sure. Guess I am being shallow.. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
