Well said Mike!

Personally, both are plenty fast enough for me to lose my licence, so they are equal. Handling, GT3 should have the edge due to technology. Looks wise, I like the more classic lines of the TT, especially the rear. DIY stuff - TT clear winner. Depreciation - TT clear winner.

Anyways, you guys get my drift.

Cheers,

the 997.2 wasn't a evolutionary car. Its revolutionary with 90% of the parts were new compared to the 997.1. There were threads on the 997 GT3 forum where the 997.1 GT3 owners (like me) were complaining they couldn't pass the 997.2 Carrera at the track! (the S with the 3.8 and PDK) I have had all of the cars you guys are talking about. 993 TT (97) 996 GT3 997.1 GT3 and finally the current car the 997.2 Carrera S with the 3.8 and direct injection. I was going to buy a GT3 RS, and stopped by my dealer to see what the fuss was about the PDK. I test drove it and I was astonished. I bought it then (porsche was giving $10K trunk money and I got 10% off MSRP). But this is how fast the 997.2 is: A friend came up to visit in his 996TT. We went out to the desert (8 miles from town) and lined the Carrera S up with the chipped 996TT. The 996 TT owner drove my car and a racing buddy of ours drove the 996TT. We took off(mine has Launch control) and mine was 1/8 of a car ahead, and at every shift the 997.2 gained more of a lead until we both hit 120 or so and shut them down. Now imagine what the 997.2 GT3 is going to do. It has more HP and less weight.
I am not saying this will be true of every 993TT but this C2S is wicked fast. AND with PDK the car had three different personalities. In regular mode it is very docile. In SPORT mode it becomes very GT3 like and in SPORT PLUS it shifts only at the redline, and the suspension is REALLY stiff. So its like three cars in one.
I am not saying the 997.2 GT3 beat every 993TT it faces but really thats not what the cars are about.
The 993TT is a world class GT car, meant to blow down the auto bahn at insane speeds. The GT3 is meant to carve up the track. Two different missions.
The 993 TT is the best form of a 911 you can get. Its pure Porsche, and has all the classic things that make Porsche so wonderful. I miss the smell of the car. And those HIPS!!!
The 997.1 GT3 is more sterile but makes WONDERFUL sounds at 7,500 RPMs!!
So you have to figure out what you want, a pure piece of classic Porsche a piece of history.
OR the more sterile all out track machine of the GT3. Its hard. But the 993 isnt depreciating.

Anyone here that have both cars or have seen head to head of these 911's that could comment?

Thanks,

If you are stock, you will be seeing GT3 taillights whether you want to run the 1/4 or the highway. A stock 997.2 GT3 runs 11's down the 1/4 mile at 120 mph stock. There are several magazines that got those times out of these cars. I personally won the all-motor class at Import Faceoff a couple of years ago, running high 11's in my 100% stock GT3 with just 2K miles on it at the time. A 993TT simple isn't as quick stock. Although the 4WD in the Turbo will help it some from a dig, beyond that it only weighs the car down and any advantage from it is gone by the end of 2nd gear. More weight + less HP = slower car. In a 1/4, that Turbo is a half second and over 5 mph slower. For top speed the GT3 tops out at 194 while the older Turbo maxes out at 180, so no chance on the top end either. That 997.2 GT3 is also faster than a 996TT and a 996TT X50. It is almost as quick as a 997.1TT. When you consider that a GT3 has just 2WD and one of the stiffest suspensions ever put in a production car, it is pretty amazing that it still has so much traction even from a dead stop.

that is what I have in my TT.
As expected, the power in TT is much different than in the 3.8RS I had, before the 4.0.
Both still lift my skirt!
Never ran a test but I think the straight line speed is close - on track the GT3 beats the TT overall.
