Default Oil and clutch advice 993 Turbo

Hi guys. I have a few questions.

Is Mobil synthetic 5w-40 too thin? I think (IMHO) it's causing smoke I didn't have before after letting the car sit 2 weeks or so. I am thinking of switching to a thicker Motul commonly recommended here early.

On a different note my mech notes the clutch picks up high AND I note that the clutch jutters when slipping it at slow speeds in first gear.

Please advise! Thank you.

Common recommendations for the air cooled cars seem to be Mobil 1 V Twin 20w50, or Motul 300V 15w50.

Kevin at Ultimate Motorwerks is ADAMANT that the V-Twin, as an oil design specifically for air cooled engines, is the best choice.

as mentioned above, m1 vtwin or motul 300v. I use the vtwin, and the engine hasn't blown up yet...thats all i can tell you without the fluff of "it sounds quieter" or whatever other bs people throw up.

As for your clutch, get yourself going in a straight line at about 35-40 mph, dump it into 5th and stomp on the gas. If the revs flare but you don't accelerate, your clutch is likely on its way out.

Its a quick and dirty test, but its usually fairly representative of whether the clutch is done.

Thanks guys. I feel better about the clutch after doing the test you advise Quad. It does have a jutter and some noise when I disengage it at slow speeds in 1st and reverse.

I'm just concerned now if 5w is progressing turbo failure sooner. I want to use Motul 300v from now on. I got some 'race ramps' I back up on now too and I'm curious to see how that works when I let the car sit or longer periods. My 'aim' is of some concern whilst backing up.

I drove to Laguna Seca today and the car performed flawlessly off the track on the way there and back. Nice 910. Beryllium brake disks? Didn't know such a thing existed.
