Looks like it has Fabspeed bypass tips. If they were rubbing on the bumper for some period of time, that would cause the meltdown. It's hard for me to understand why the seller wouldn't just put a stock muffler back on it and fix or replace the bumper before putting it up for sale?

I really love the color, and it fairly priced, but a few things bother me. The muffler/ bumper thing is a given, and most likely easy to fix, but the odometer issue scares me a bit, although a car fax should reveal any issues there. The narrow shot of the engine bay does not look very tidy or well looked after, and the aftermarket hell hole of an audio system is killing me. I really feel this car deserves saving, but I'm not sure I want to be the one. Is anyone aware of a shop near there who could perform a thorough PPI?? Anyone run a car fax yet?? Thanks Steve

ok, I spoke to the dealer, and went through the car fax by phone. The mileage checks out atleast from what i'm being told, however it sounds like who ever the past owners were, did not make car care a priority. If you examine the photos carefully it looks pretty rough. Engine compartment is filthy with deteriorated engine blanket, all four wheels are curbed, looks like the paint has a number of flaws including a large chip in the rear tail. The bumper although an easy fix points to serious neglect in my book. The interior has a lot of wear for only 36k miles. There is zero service records or history on the car. Maybe it was a rental in Vegas in the late 90's!! As much as I love the color, too many things say "run away" .

I am always shocked when I see no service records or historical documents on these cars! Haven't they ever heard of resale value? Maybe Nick Cage drove it when he was banging that hooker in 'Leaving Las Vegas'

For me, if the car itself appears to be "rough" it is more than likely it was not driven that carefully either - with improper cool downs, long interval oil changes, just poor maintenance. Either you buy a car like that as a project car (with the corresponding initial price) or walk. I agree with your assessment.

in my personal opinion, with 13 years of living with a 993,
the seats look 45k-50k miles.
Not many passenger seat time in front or rear.
defining the owner, money was spent on esthetics (not criticizing his taste or imposing mine)
carbon, Tinting glass, mcintosh.
Engine bay was rarely opened.
Stupid move to post pictures without speedo, even if honestly done
But I would thoroughly investigate one blunt thing:
the wheels have been removed and remounted a lot lot lot of times.
The lug nuts have more signs of wear than mine, wtf ?

As I've mentioned, odometer reset on our cars is trivially easy. Odometer readings without lots of corroboration should be considered anecdotal.
