Default flashing check engine light (help)

I just went out for a drive (hadn't driven the car in a month) and noticed on full throttle the engine seemed to lose power at the very top of rpm band. Felt fine if I was gradual with it up to 5500rpm but if i went full power it started to sound like a beating exhaust note as opposed to one smooth sound? Of course once I noticed this I did it again and now I have a flashing CEL. I am novice so I will bring it to the dealer but any ideas what it might be so I can prepare the wallet.

I believe the owners manual says that flashing CEL means it is a serious issue, turn the car off and have it towed to the dealer.

I had the same thing happen earlier this year. Accelerated fine until 3500 rpm then hesitation and sputtering feel nd sound. My 6 th cylinder spark plug was misfiring. Replaced it and all was good.
Good Luck.

Or take it to an independent OR take it to your own garage and read the codes if you have a ODB2 reader (they are cheap cheap cheap now).

I dislike the dealers/stealers a lot so my first recommendation would not be to tow the car to one of those, the dealers often have no idea since most of the mechanics have never seen air-cooled cars.. :-)

Cheers,

Mike

Car made it to the dealer this morning and the CEL was no longer flashing just on.

Mike I agree that dealers can be dubious but the guys at Porsche of Southampton (formerly Storms) seem to be honest and experienced with air-cooled cars. Anybody have a rec for a good independent 993 mechanic in or near Southampton NY? It would be nice to have options.

Thanks

Prussian Blue, really? I thought that color went away in 1989ish. Is it paint to sample?

On the mechanical issue, it sounds catastrophic. I think you need to sell it to me.

Please post pics.

Here are some photos of my car from a previous post.
The car was ordered with PTS and other interesting options that I love like silver brake calipers.

When I had a flashing CEL on my '05 Range Rover the dealer warranteed the Cats as they had become
clogged from rich mixture..
I also had info from a mechanic friend that the flashing CEL is a failure of the Catylyst and or 02 system
and required immediate replacement.
Sounds like your in the right place good luck...Bert

Default yes

yes, many shops and dealers screw people by claiming to do "all plugs" but later people find out #6 was never changed as it takes most of the time to do plug 6....

common way to screw the customer......
