Well, something is apparently wrong with one of the plugs and cylinders. which could cause the cats to melt or fail....also some wiring was failing?

Basically I am at their mercy and will most likely be out $3-4k parts and labor. THis one stings as I was thinking about spending some $$$ this winter to fix up the large amount of stone chips on the front of the cars paint work.

Default be happy, hope works out for you

"$3-4k parts and labor"

If you can come out of this less 3-4k in your pocket and have the car back to 100% and confirming (other cylinders/pistons) that the rest of the engine is good your in great shape.....

Please let us know how it turns out....if you need a new cylinder head you maybe looking at 30-40hrs in labor + 2200+ for the head itself +.

Others can chime in but believe the wiring harness in these cars are known to go after some years and even was a recall a ways back?

Do you think you can a more comprehensive diagnosis for what's wrong and post it here? What you have posted above sounds rather suspect. I'm not sure if details were lost in the translation, or if that was their literal diagnosis. I'm worried you are about to get ripped off.

I've asked for an email to explain. I'm just butchering what they told me over the phone.

Let us know... well this forum (as I am still learning myself) what they say as many times people here have gone through the same thing and can add some real value. In questions you may want to go back with and other things to check etc...

wish you the best and that it is not to major...

Unfortunately Hurricane Sandy has put everything on hold. I live in the Northeast. My last conversation with the dealer which was last Friday estimated all the work to be $3500. I think Southampton NY still doesn't have power.

So the obd on 993's can't talk about/code individual cylinder spark plugs or can they? OP's 32k miles it's probably time for new spark plugs if the last were done at 15k. Number 3 and 6 spark plugs just need some funky socket linkages to get to I understand, right?

So I finally got back the car last weekend and all is good and bill came in at $2400. Its running great. As the dealer's computers went down because of Sandy I still don't have a detailed receipt but from what the guy told me over the phone they replaced all the spark plugs some wiring thats related and then basically did a full engine tune up. Sorry for lack of real detail but I'm hoping for itemized invoice. Btw Happy Thanksgiving RL
