Default Mobil 1 15w-50 oil

I just noticed and confirmed that Walmart is no longer carrying Mobil 1 15w-50 weight, do you guys know another source to purchase this oil at a competitive price?

I recommend looking at the Mobil VTwin 20W50.. Great oil for the turbocharged air cooled engine.

i have been reading this on the forum lately.

i cannot wrap my head around using the same oil in my Porsche as I use in my Harley Davidson.

but based on the info i have researched on the forum i will probably go with it.

however, considering i do less than 5,000 miles per year, usually do the oil change in the springtime, but will drive the car into the late fall (nightime temps approaching 40 degrees) is the 20W-50 to thick for those temps?

should i stick with the 15W-50?

I'd like to hear Kevin's view but the LN Engineering site indicates, as I recall, that the 15W is good down to -20C and the 20W is good down to -15C, both much colder than I'll be attempting to start my car. Another idea might be to warm the oil somehow - like a bulb in the engine compartment?

I went to purchase the V-Twin from Wally World today. Had to go to two separate stores because one ran out.

One store has the black container V-twin synthetic, and the other has the silver container. They both have same lettering/info. Anybody know if there is a difference??

Common problem, since most motorcycles don't hold +10 quarts of oil!

I've noticed the packaging change, too. I sent Mobil an e-mail on the web site, never received a reply. Not a concern.

This was a concern of mine too. But, I went with Kevin's recommendation, and can't be happier.

I bought my Turbo in November of 2009. In those 2 years (almost) I've done over 20,000 miles and 4 oil changes. 1 with Mobil Ext. Perf. 15W50 (first) and 3 with V-Twin. My Blackstone Used Oil Analysis have improved each and every time. My reports are excellent.

I'll be having the 5th oil change (and UOA) done in about another month. As soon as the report comes back from Blackstone, I'll make a post with the report.

Stay tuned.

Call PetroLiance 800-628-7231. They sell the entire Mobil line-up. And ship just about anywhere. They may even have a local branch near you. You'll need to establish an account. Tell them, you run a small shop, and pay upfront. I pick mine up locally in Elgin, IL. Their pricing is just slightly below retail (approx.$0.50/quart). But they have the hard to find stuff. They also sell the Mobil Delvac 75W90 gear oil/lube, 4 gal. minimum order, but you can split with a Rennlister.

They also have the hard-to-find Mobil 5W50 (I use in my Boxster).

Oliver, PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send you my UOA from this past spring. I'd post it, but I can't edit out my personal info right now.

When I do my next UOA, in October-ish, I'll post for the 993 Turbo forum to see.

That's not a good choice for an air-cooled Turbo Porsche. OK for a 996/997 NA car.

You need at least a 15W50.

Go V-Twin 20W50 my 993TT friend.

Last week I changed my oil after using Mobil 1 0w40 for 6k miles and found "grey paste" on the sump plug, whereas previously there had been none.
I reckon I'll try V-Twin 20w50 next time, even though I did read an article on LN Engineering site that talked about the increased levels of Zinc possibly causing issues with the Cats.
Anyone experienced any problems?

0W40 is the wrong choice for an air cooled Porsche. Even worse for an air cooled Turbo. A 6,000 mile drain interval is a little long too. 5,000 would be better. V-Twin has been good to me.
