Smile Feels good to be back in a 993 !!

Hey fellow Rennlisters-
After a 5 year hiatus I’ve finally returned to the 993. I had been looking off and on for quite a while across the country but finally found one nearly in my back yard!

Just took possession of a 1996 Midnight Blue 993TT- and I’m completely stoked- which might even be an understatement. I took position after work (it was dark) and its forecasting rain for the next 3 days – so torn between getting it dirty and the chance to relearn how to drive the 993. OK OK OK, I am quite sure it’ll get a bit dirty this weekend

A few pics below – more to come later.

I’m new to the TT board (used to haunt the 993 NA board) and looking forward to meeting you all.

Welcome. Looks like a really nice car. Interior pics and a few more details about the car would be appreciated. Congrats.

Very nice! Congrats. Great color combo.

Please reorganize your garage, and move some of that stuff away from your new baby. It's making me a bit nervous!

This must be the car that was for sale over at Park Place. Beautiful color combo and reasonable price too. Congrats !

Very nice Jeff. I too have been trying to get back in a 993 (TT).

Enjoy it!

Thanks everyone!

I just got back from my inaugural drive this morning. The roads were wet but no rain. Took it in a loop around Lake Washington which is about a 20 minute spin from one freeway to another. At 7:30 am it was dawn, and just a few cars out. Perfect to stretch the legs. The car feels pretty good.

After driving the M5 for 5 years the visceral 993 feels almost go-kart like. The M5 and TT both have about 400 HP, but the TT is only 3307 lbs and the M5 is 700 lbs heavier. But the M5 electronics really abstract the driver (although in Sport mode it’s arguably one of the most fun sedans to drive ☺). Driving the loop in the Porsche was so kinetic… I could feel every bump, every road irregularity. Turns on rails, instant acceleration.

It has the CDR-210 (no changer) but I really need to complain to someone- I couldn’t hear the radio over the engine – Wink!

GBM- Yes, it was the car from Park Place- and a single owner w/ 31k miles.

Chris's German did the PPI and it checked out really strong- compression and leakdown were good. On the test drive, I felt the car seem to shimmy at around 50-55 mph, and Chris informed me the left rear wheel is out of round (e.g. bent ) So I need to research where to find a good condition hollow turbo twist. (I forgot how tough it can be to find parts for these 15 year old cars!) I wonder how large that pot-hole was…

The exterior is Midnight Blue Metallic (L39C) and the interior is Classic Grey (TF)

From what I can tell it appears to be lightly optioned, and completely stock.

It did come with supple leather seats and they are heated… but no lumbar support. Came with the CD indash but no changer.

C02 Emission Code (for all U.S. Cars - MANDATORY) This is the code for cars coming to the US fitted with a catalytic converter
M139 Seat Heating System, Left Seat
M340 Seat Heating System, Right Seat
M445 Silver Wheel Trim With Multi-Coloured Escutcheon
M454 Automatic Speed Control
M650 Electrical Sliding Roof
M688 Radio "Porsche CDR-210"
M939 Sear Covers Rear Draped Leather
M982 Seat Covers Front Draped Leather/Leather/Leather

Plus an option code I can’t find- 706.

Interior is very clean, too. I already have a list of things I need to do- aluminum door sills, possibly white gauges, hardwire my V1… clearly all ‘needs’.) Oh, and I only got one key with the car so I need to pick up some blanks, remotes, etc. and go through the joy of reprogramming the remotes. (Side question: I have read (and talked w/ dealership) that the programming is a complete PITA. I’ve found some pretty thorough HOWTO’s on rennlist, but one question I had… if it fails during the procedure and won’t complete successfully, is the car effectively locked and I’m outta luck? Or can I keep retrying until it succeeds, or will the old remote continue to work up until the reprogramming completes?)

No HTwo O- Ha! Yes, reorganizing the Garage is already on the list. I really wasn’t expecting to find the car so didn’t have time to appropriately roll out the red carpet for it, but I do know what’s on my agenda for this weekend!

Again, thanks for the warm welcome back!

Jeff, your car looks awesome. That special feeling never really goe's.
Iv'e got a spare back wheel but shipping would be silly money. LA Porsche have some minters. Mine was $450US which I thought was good.
Enjoy that car mate. They are indeed very special.

I bought myself an extra set and one rim was bent. Before you buy a "new" rim . Allow a repair workshop to look at the bent rim. They can probably fix it if it is not too serious. It is usually the inside of the rim is bent.

Congrats on a superb purchase!

FYI - I have a CD changer if you need one.
