It was the accumulator. Switched it out and problem solved.
Bad accumulator is not a problem when driving. When car is off, don't pump the clutch ( why would you do that anyway? ). Pumping the clutch will increase the pressure and potentially cause pentosin leak.

Thanks. How difficult was this as a DIY? I'm reasonably handy bit not a mechanic. Messy job? Total cost? Thanks.

I don't DIY. Would like to learn some day when I have more time. Total cost was $450 inc $50 tax. Accumulator was $172. Pentosin was $37 and labour was $190 - 1.75 hours

Thanks Bob. I sold the GR 993 last year and saw it 2 weeks ago at a Sat GTG. It actually looks better than when I had it. RUF wheels and Terry told me he spent 16 hours detailing it. Good luck on your PPI. I think that Auguste told me a number of years ago about your S. Are you planning on keeping it after you move to the enlightened side? 
Not sure what I'm going to be doing with the S if the deal on the TT comes through. I hate to part with it but it may render itself redundant in my garage if the TT is as good as everyone says.

Glad to hear she went to a good home. Is Terry the fellow who recently sold an 89 speedster?
