Sport seats versus Standard seats (993 turbo)
Are sport seats problematic? More than once I have seen the leather separate around the edges from the fiber glass shell. Comfort wise are they as comfortable as the standard seat?
Thank you

I find my sport seats to be very comfy on long drives. There is a lumbar pad that can be moved around to suit, it's attached by velcro behind the backrest cushion.

I find very little difference between the regular seats and the sport seats, certainly not enough to warrant the difference in price!
The sport seat is not extreme enough for track use in my opinion. Both are equally comfortable on the street and I have not had any problems with either.

I havent been able to find why the 993 sport seats are worth a bazillion dollars more than the regular seats. And it only seems to be in the 993. In later models there is no big deal between the sport seats and the regular seats. I dont see any reason to spend that kind of money on a marginally better seat. In the 996 they are a dime a dozen. There is nothing in my opinion that the seat offers to warrant the price. In fact in my experience with my 993TT, 996 GT3, 997 GT3 and now my 997.2 C2S the 993 sport seat is the most over rated mod or upgrade I can think of. A pair of 996 GT3 seats would be a much better expenditure because those are functionally better, and you can harness them or just use your plain seat belt. As a matter of fact you can get the NEW GT2 Carbon FOLDING seats for $6K at suncoast Porsche. Those are worth the money!!

OldGuy I believe the price on the 993 series sport seats aka the "hardbacks" is driven by the supply they are not as widely available as the standard seats...yet when the 993 series cars were first being built the hardback sport seats were relatively speaking for Porsche inexpensive interestingly enough in the water cooled cars the sport seats are more expensively priced when first ordered...seats are certainly a personal choice...personally I love the look and especially if the backs are painted the exterior color...

the only appeal of the sport seats is the color painted hardbacks which look cool.
They really do not hold you any better than standard seats.
Ive also been in the recaro topline leather seats which are better and more aggressive than the sportseats.
while the recaros hold you slightly better and can accomidate harnessses, which also look cool, they really are not adaquate seats for real track work.
I actually think the '95 (and 964) sport seats do a better job of keeping you in place.
So, to me, these seats are not worth much more than standard leather seats. jmho
