Default salvaged 993 tt

I even found the salvage yard in Brooklyn where the owner that repaired it bought the car ! I also have the ad in Hemming Motor News where the first owner after fixing sold it for 36k !

Sorry to hear such a horrible story but as others said due diligence was the key. Nonetheless the OP trusted Canepa and their reputation. Which at one point or another we have all probably done(given trust to someone or something we thought highly of). IMO I see only two ways out of this: 1) Canepa takes the car back and refunds your money in full including shipping charges 2) The OP and Canepa agree to find a more realistic price and Canepa returns the different(along with some type of warranty for your troubles). Full disclosure is the dealers responsibility. He is the one with the license. Before Carfax, the only way to know(a car's history) would be with a trained eye or maintenance records. So while Carfax exist today that does not excuse the dealer from fully disclosing all information of the vehicle to the buyer. Your purchase was in "good faith" to the information you were given. The dealer(CANEPA) is 100% at fault.

Good luck my friend..

These types of story make me very gun shy to by cars used...you just never know what you are getting into. You must be a dective in order to by a used car and even then you never 100% certain

the good thing for the buyer or maybe the bad thing is it seems so apparent what this car is or was. By carfax and by a simple dealer looking at it.

Like I said...total bummer....I'd pursue it. I can't image the dealer was w/o knowledge of the salvage condition.

That picture may not show a misaligned hood. Often times the rubber trim strip between the bumper and hood is misaligned, that picture wouldn't make me think "big damage," but rather "front bumper was removed once, could've been for maintenance."

Ok, my two cents on this:

First of all, I think NYC123 has heard from enough of us that he should have gotten a PPI and CarFax. He trusted a reputable dealer and in hindsight should not have. Sad that he had to learn that. I did the same recently when buying my car, sight unseen. I did the CarFax but not the PPI. I could have been taken....I was lucky and I'll be more cautious in the future.

As for Canepa, we know one thing....he damn well did a CarFax on this car. And knowing he did the CarFax, there is no way that the description he wrote for his listing for this car is consistent with having knowledge of previous damage history. He stated it was loved and rubbed and driven very little by two previous collectors. Apparently Canepa is saying now that they told NYC of previous damage. Who would ever believe that a glowing listing summary like that would be written, only to hear the dealer follow it up with full disclose verbally that there was previous damage. I don't buy it. No way that I can ever accept a description like that as anything other than minimally misleading and more likely outright fraudulent.

Good luck to you NYC

I looked at Canepa when I was buying. I was amazed at the "quality" of their inventory. I will NEVER consider them in the future. I hope they come to their senses with NYC123.

very bad on Canepa, hopefully they will make this right without the lawsuit but sounds like that is what is necessary.
on another note I have read that Canepa claimed to be responsible for making the 959 us legal, but a lawyer (maybe Bill Gate's lawyer) actually has proven that it was him and that Canepa was falsely taking credit for this. this was a few years ago and can be found on the web.
on another note: they do have a pretty impressive website, it is hard to believe they would pull this crap.
this is not the first story of a car bought sight unseen that was not what they expected.
good luck NYC123 I hope they make it right.
