Default when is the front 2nd oil cooler activated?

hi guys,
Basic question: i have the Ruf/cargraphic front extra oil cooler from an old group buy here..
Ive never understood what activates it.
As i did not install a separate switch for it, what makes the oil cooler turn on?
Will it automatically turn on when the a/c fan is turned on?
How can i verify that its working properly?
thanks.

Whenever the thermostat opens to feed the primary oil cooler, the 2nd feeds as well. The fan for it operates whenever the A/C is on. You can feel the lines for it become hot when oil flows through it.

What is also temperature activated is the high speed cooling fan. That kicks on somewhere around 9 o'clock on the temp gauge.

With my second oil cooler and AC on, I don't see temps get as high as 9 o'clock. And I drove it in 104 degree temps last week.

Yes, since these coolers are in series and with no thermostat between them, if one cooler is warm, the aux cooler should also be.

Just to be completely clear, the fan they are discussing is on the primary oil cooler(passenger side).

People have been discussing both fans!

The fan on your primary cooler comes on automatically (if your ballast resistors are working). The fan on the aux cooler is the A/C fan and it only comes on when you turn on your A/C. There is a mod on P-car.com that enables you to manually turn your primary fan on at high speed. Of course, if the thermostat isn't open it doesn't do much.

we are speaking about the 2nd oil cooler, in my case the ruf/cargraphic.

therefore, based on Greg's comment, should i run my a/c when im on the track to make sure it engages? does it matter what a/c setting im using or the fan speed? If my a/c is not turned on, is it basically useless?

Unless you are driving really slow, I think the ram air going through the cooler is much more than the fan can provide. I wouldn't worry about it on the track. If you are idling at a stand still, then you might turn on your a/c. Have you ever seen your temps get too high (above 9:30 or 10:00)? If so, I'd check that my primary fan was coming on before I did anything.

under the passenger headlight is a plug that if unplugged the fan stays on when the car is on(primary cooler fan).
