Default X50 450hp upgrade kit

Hey guys,

i am looking to upgrade my engine with the 450hp kit....was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to ordering these parts. Also, what kinda budget am i looking at for this upgrade?

Opinions and advice would be highly appreciated!

Thanks!

Unfortunately can not answer your second question concerning labor to install the kit in the car. Maybe someone else can answer that. Otherwise, you may consult your workshop.

would consider fvd or umw before making your final decision on your upgrade kit.

You should consider the Ruf Turbo R conversion too. They state 490 HP, but that is conservative according to my dyno sheet.

XLC-kit (450hp) isn't really state of the art today. Rather a 15 year old solution. It does perform quite well, but there is better bang for the buck out there.
Ultimate MotorWerks solution used to be appreciated. And IIRC it gave both more power and less lag.

I upgraded my 993 T to a factory X50 package using factory 993 K24 turbos and a 1997 ECU fitted with a new FVD X50 program. The results are stunning. It feels so much faster that you will be amazed and while the power does come on 500 to 800 rpm later than the stock setup, it does so with a bang. It has been reliable and the car is even more fun to drive. My labor cost for the install of the turbos and new FPR at the dealer was around $800. Have fun!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

The Ruf Turbo R conversion was my initial choice. I visited Ruf in Phaffenhausen about 3 weeks ago and planned to do a complete Ruf conversion on my car. Ended up deciding not to touch the engine but did order Ruf parts for the suspension, interior, wheels....

I am in Hong Kong and maintence of the car was a serious issue for me. So for the engine, i decided to go with the factory program for the sake of easy maintenance.

BTW, i took a test drive with their 997 based RT12S.....700hp.....the torque was unbelievable! 6th gear standing still.....no gas, no clutch.....the car just slowly creeps.......no signs of stalling.....and easy to drive!

Their latest creation the Greenster is quite impresive......900+hp electric car.

Also saw 2 CTR3 in assembly........now that car is a piece of art!

Do consider an ECU upgrade if you go down the route of the X50 kit - without it you're leaving a fair bit of performance on the table.

^^^ +1. Phelix has the right idea here. There's nothing wrong with K24's, but the OEM programming from Porsche could be better. There's a lot of lag there. Ask me how I know. I had Manthey reprogram the ecu and got more power and a lot less lag. That's not the most cost effective way of doing this. With something like the FVD kit (or others - Cargraphic is basically RSTuning stuff) you're still getting the same components Porsche uses and you're only buying it once. But if you're going to be using the car purely/mainly on the street a hybrid turbo solution would probably be better. Even RUF uses these on the turboR.

While obvious to many. Just so Chris don't order the wrong stuff.
X50 is just a ECU Upgrade for 430hp.
The X50 ECU is not compatible to use with the 450 hp solution.

+1 on getting a different ECU anyway. Add a better exhaust/cat and I think that pretty much gets the most out of the K24s.
