Default Effects of high elevation on hp?

Hello all,

I'm a sea level dweller and am taking the CGT and the 993tt to Colorado later this month. Most of that time will be spent between 5000 and 10,000ft elevation.

What is the effect of that elevation on the hp of the cars? Will the turbo lose less hp than a NA car? Is there some sort of formula like, "for every X feet of elevation, you lose Y hp? Thanks in advance.

CGT won't even run up there. You better leave it here with me...

See you shortly.

The tt will just spin up the turbos more to compensate for the altitude, at least to 10,000 ft, so you won't lose any power. The CGT will lose power as you gain altitude, but it's kind of complicated as the air density decreases at an decreasing rate as you go up.

Just add some extra baking soda...or is that baking powder? Wait a minute, that only works for muffins.

I've taken my 993tt up to 2800m (9100 ft) and once on boost it desn't seem any different. Off-boost the low-ish compression and lower air pressure mean the car feels slow with lots of apparent lag.

Default It's Not Too Bad!

I have driven hundreds of miles at high altitude and it's not all bad at all! Most open road races in Nevada are run up to 6500 ASL. There is,at times a favorable trade running my Ruf Turbo R at speeds well above 190+ mph for extended periods. Power loss is not significant and the Cd is reduced. I have a huge advantage over more powerful N/A cup cars. Turbo life is not soo good, but so what?

Enjoy.

Cheers

R
