Default Proper Ruf nomenclature

I brought this question over here since there is more Ruf related traffic on this board. Is it proper to refer to a conversion as an" R-Turbo" or is that reserved for the Ruf VINs?

Other than the vin what is the difference? If you spent the money on the conversion it should be called R-Turbo. Now I am not a member of the RUF fraternity so maybe I don't know.
nice car btw

Hey Doug! Your car is worthy of being called an R Turbo.

Yes, a converted car is still an R Turbo (996 and 997) or Turbo R (993). And there are several other conversions, (BTR, etc). AND there are some RUF VIN cars with the same names.

RUF VIN cars actually have a VIN from RUF as a manufacturer. RUF buys the tub from Porsche. And they are generally worth a lot more $$. Check out the used car listings at RUF Dallas: www.rufautocentre.com

Someone else can explain this much better than I.

(BTW, my car is a conversion Turbo R done at RUF Germany)

Thanks Patrick, that's about what I thought. I have to get another R-turbo badge anyway because it was slightly crooked and I screwed it up trying to fix it.

IMO "proper" is anything you consider to be proper.
You have converted the car with Ruf for the performence and quality benefits, not for the badge right?
I don't have any badges on my ctr2 and ctr3(ruf vin's)

Very true, I just thought it might be fun to have the badge. Although I am quite enjoying the stealth look.

^^ Agreed. The folks in Paffenhausen told me if it's got one of their motors in it ... it's a RUF!
