My car (with its measly 460-480hp) hooks up much better with 315/30 than it did with 295/30 (both Michelin PS2). It's a noticeable difference.

Forgeline knows how to snug a 12" wheel under the back of a 993 wide body. I run the factory wheels with 295's and don't really want more straight line grip in the rear and don't really care to have the car any more sticky in turns. I really want more up front for brakes and steering. I have 265's on the front of the GT3 and I think that's what the 993 needs. If you really want more stick, look at the compound of the given tire rather than the arbitrary number for the width, but certainly, going from 295 to 315 creates a huge increase in contact patch, especially under load.

I am currently enjoying just this scenario with my 997 but it has the TC/SC to sort it out, if you turn this off the thing will leap side ways under full torque on a less than flat road - this becomes tiresome after a while........

But I say again for steering feel and nimbleness the 2WD is a joy and for a stock powered car I would probably do it...
TB,
Given your history witht the 993tt, is it likely that you will be planning some tasteful mods for the GT2?

Without trying to sound biased one way or another, if the Alzen 996tt was built for a series that had fewer rules than either the European or American Le Mans series, it would stand to reason that they used the optimum performance setup. Wasn't that car 4wd? Does the team's decision to run 4wd in that car have any basis on the older 993 chassis cars? thanks in advance.

Alzen car was mainly ran on Nürburgring, a track with special weather conditions. Without any stats, I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of rain/wet somewhere on the track.

I'm a new member from England. I don't know whether you have converted to 2wd yet. But I am in the process of doing it now. I have gone the more permanent route of completely converting the gearbox by cutting off the end of the output shaft and end casing. And am fitting a new nose cover with traditional 2wd gearbox mount. Be careful some people say that the C2 end cover will fit but it doesn't! it is actually a 964 turbo cover.
Regards, Kevin
Interested to hear what youve done.

turbo kev,

I did not cut the shaft. I removed it and had an aluminum "plug" made on a lathe. Then applied silicone to seal the plug. There is no pressure at all so no issue with leaking trans fluid. Cutting the shaft is probably as much work as making a custom plug.

On the other hand, I did have the front drive shaft hubs cut right at the ABS gear (again done on a lathe). This way my ABS is functional. I know you can use/buy Porsche parts (shake-proof washer / the 48-tooth ABS trigger gear) but I had the shafts and no longer needed them.

I will post pics sometime this week of all the custom parts made for this project:

RS shift tube
RS Short Shift Kit
2WD trans mount
trans plug
modified front drive shafts / 48-tooth ABS trigger gear
