Default intercooler hose failure

Those of you who have difficulties with the intercooler hoses coming loose/off, do you have aftermarket BOV? Is there a link between after market BOV and hose problems?

Noticed some 'slippage' of my intercooler hoses - had not had problem prior to switching to aftermarket BOV...

The standard BOV items are supposed to be fine even on modded cars ..... I have done 15k miles on (then new) stock BOV's with no probs / hose pop off

anytime you are getting more boost there will be more strain on the IC hoses. The hoses should be able to withstand a well running stock car. Turbo cars in general do develop some leaks on occasion. Even new stock 997tt has some rare issues with IC hoses popping off the IC's.

Be sure the metal to rubber interface is oil free. Placing some material between the IC clamp and the rubber and cinching tight down on it worked for me. Material was three pieces of 1/8"x1"x1" sponge/scrub pad material. GL

The shiny aluminum bov look nice so I switched... I was thinking that the pressures must be highest between the time the throttle body closes and the bov open...so if they open a little differently/slower could cause higher surge in pressure?

Thanx for the tip Brad, I'm going to see if I can make my own version of 'hard pipes'. Looking at some shiny aluminum intake pipe but I noticed there's some interesting stuff in the plumbing section of my local hardware store too!

I swtiched to "Breeze" constant torque hose clamps. No problems.

The turbo outlet at the diffuser is 50mm (2"0) and inlet into intercooler is 63mm (2.5"). The stock turbo hose is a gradual increase in diameter. Don't think I can recreate that, it will be more of a abrupt change with a silicone reducer from 2.5" to 2" somewhere along it's length... is that important? is the stock hose acting as a diffuser and would changing configuration change the way pressure is built up? or am I thinking too much?

I don't know if you are thinking too much, but it sounds like you are going from two hose clamps per side to 4. I can't see how that makes it less prone to failure. I went to the Breeze clamps as well and haven't had a problem.

and lubricate the threads of the clamps so that they don't bind when tightened.

no probs here with Breeze clamps up top and standard clamps down below with Evo MS BOVs

I was thinking the same thing.... although I guess one of the reasons the hoses come off presumably is because they stretch/expand and move around more. There would be more than 4 clamps with all the reducers and elbows, but I could use some silicone glue at some of the joints (taking care not to use too much) + clamps. Also not much space in there to try to increase diameter of hose.

I think you'll get turbulence will not so great results, kinda like aneurysms at bifurcations? I went back to stock clamps after breeze clamps kept slipping off for whatever reason. Never tried the scrub pad material with breeze clamps though.
