Bosch 044 Motorsport fuel pump
Currently upgrading the fueling on the tt as my stock pump is on its way out. The car started to run lean on top all of a sudden so I changed the fuel filter and the problem persisted. So I took this as a perfect opportunity to do a little upgrading!
I've run the 044 pump in my other cars and they are great and flow ALOT of fuel (200 lph @ 5bar). My new setup will included 60 lb injectors, adjustable fpr (set at 3.5 bar for starters) and the new fuel pump. The newer injectors are much better than the stock bosch ones in terms of spray pattern and solinoid stability.
The whole point of this is that I don't ever want to worry about running out of fuel and I'll now be able to fine tune the AFR's to run on the richer side (for track day safety). Also I like the idea of the injectors running at 70-80% duty cycle instead of 90-100%.
Anywho alot of tuners and resellers really jack the prices up on these 044 pumps, this place http://www.jayracing.com has them for $200 which is a really good price (no affiliation, just trying to show everyone a good deal).
Also these pumps fit directly in the stock location as a direct replacement.

Good to know these will fit our cars without too much trouble. Great pump. They are rated for 5bar but actually are closer to 8bar at 13.2 vdc. These pumps are pretty conservatively rated.

A single 044 pump will support about 600rwhp at stock 3.8 bar fuel pressure. Above that and you need a larger pump or two 044 pumps.
What injectors did you go with? If you used the Mototron, they are an old Lucas design and I'd look elsewhere.

They are siemens if i'm not mistaken. Should I have gone with something else?

Spartan, a must do.
This is the same as Porsche part number 993.620.104.80 and they are used in many Porsche Motorsports applications. In fact according to some readings, it flows more than 200 ltrs per hour.
The limit of your engine's HP with this setup is 600FWHP or so, and you are not limited by your injectors but rather by the fuel pump. Here is why:
With your 60lbs injectors you can calculate the maximum HP at different pressure ratings as follows:
Fuel injectors max HP (lb/hr) = (Injector flow rate x Number of injectors x Duty cycle)/BSFC
This is at 3bar as most injectors are rated this pressure.
If you want to know at 3.8 Bar add 12.5% and at 5 bar add another 15%.
So for example with your injectors at 80% duty cycle, you have
Max HP = (60x6x80%)/0.55 est. = 523 FWHP
At 3.8 Bar => 523*1.125= 590 Fwhp at 80% duty cycle. At 100% theoretical => 736 fwhp
At 5.0 bar => 523*1.29= 675 fwhp at 80% duty cycle. At 100% theoretical => 844 fwhp
The Bosch 044 flows around 315 lbs/hr at 5 bar, while your injectors flow 60x6x1.29= 464lbs/hr at 5 bar and 370 lbs/hr at 80% duty cycle. Meaning that your fuel pump will max out before your injectors do even at 80% duty cycle. The 044 will take you to close to 600 fwhp if it flows 200lph, but I know it flows a bit more.

I'll never make that much hp (600whp) although it would be nice Being that I only run 1.1 bar and will run 1.3 (ish) after my mild engine build up I should be fine fuel wise. It feels faster due to the major diet it's gone through (2850 lbs now)
And TWO 044's? Thats my kind of fuel setup!!

We use a single 044 pump to feed 640hp powerplants.
I cannot locate in my notes, but there is another part number for a Bosch pump that is rated for 6+bar but is merely a hand picked 044 pump based upon dyno performance.

This is basically a track toy that sees occasion street use (although i find myself driving it on the street an aweful lot this summer)

1- Pump 0 580 254 046 flows more than the 044 but is not a direct fit and needs some work.
2- Bosch fuel pump B 261 205 413 is claimed to be the same as the 044 but rated at a different pressure .
HP is dependent on BSFC, therefore different between engine types and brands. For a N/A engine you can have much more HP with the same pump. More efficient watercooled engines as well.
