A Rare Porsche gathering: 2 Rufs, 993GT2, and a Cayman (Pics)
Hi Folks,
Steve. Jochen, Melissa and I had lunch together today, and these Porsches made a group appearance:
Melissa: 2007 base Cayman.
Pong: 1995 Ruf BTR-2.
Steve: Rufus (need I say more?)
Now the star of the show:
Jochen: 1996 Andial 3.8L 993 GT2, with sunroof delete. His car has 500+ horses, and weights 2,850 lbs. Alum race doors and hood, AWD-delete to become a 2 WD, sunroof-delete, lightweight laminate rear glass, etc. etc. It is a beast.
I said it many times, the 993 GT2 is the most incredible Porsche road car design I have seen. This is quite a collection of rare Porsche samples.
So without further adieu, here are the pics. Enjoy.

Very nice sample of how amazing these 993s can look 10+ years after. The three of them very tatstefully done, makes you want to drive them NOW!
Jochen's GT2 conversion is stunning. Congratulations, I believe these are the first pictures of the finished car that I have seen.
Rufus looks like serious business too and Pong's car a classic..
Nice pics.

Great cars!!
But what is a GT2 with sunroof delete and awd delete? Not a GT2. And the weight of 2850 lbs is nothing special for a completely stock GT2 if my kg->lbs calculations are correct
I'm not a huge fan to call a GT2 conversion or what ever it is a GT2 (at least the reg plate is too much...)
I know these kinds of fast GT2-bodykitted cars and they are great, I adore them. But to call them GT2...Naah.
I hope no one thinks this post too negatively: I know nothing about that car and I'm sure it is modded to the maximum and faster than everything etc...And it looks fantastic!
But if you did not get my point:
How would you feel if you see '996 GT3 pictures' where there is a 996 Carrera with a supercharger, GT3 aero parts, a GT3 rear badge and a '996 GT3' reg plate? I think that would be similar stuff as shown here.
Don't want to come off as a Porsche purist but just my 2 cents!
EDIT: If there is no real street GT2's in the US that is more acceptable...but it still is more of a conversion rather than the real deal.

Welcome to this board. You are absolutely correct and I understand perfectly where you are coming from.
This GT2 conversion is a different thing, and belongs to a different kind of person As hardcore 993 fans that we are over here, we consider Porschemeister, the owner, as a local hero! Jochen has owned and raced GT2 EVOs and GT1s more and for longer than anyone on this board and than most in the world. In fact he received the first ever customer sold GT1 , at least in the US.
He knows what a GT2 is, and he cannot get a street legal one in the US. His passion for these aircooled cars remained , and many years later, led him to rebuild an exact replica of the street GT2, and I mean exact, and he did not spare money or efforts bringing parts from all over the world to get as close as possible to the real thing, hence the exact weight and looks. Yet he would not call it a GT2 himself other than for simplicity purposes.
And if he did, personally I would not have a problem, as long as it is him, due to the help his team provided in making these cars better!!
Your points are valid in general terms though

I could not have said it any better. My sentiments exactly.
The fact is if Mr. Porsche himself lives in the states and desires a 993 GT2, this is the only route he could take to get one. Jochen, being who he is, deserves the kudos for building such a great machine, genuine article or not.

CP - Awesome shots - and unfortunately VERY timely... however the pictures inspire me even further...
Jean - couldn't agree with your comments more - and not all of us are lucky enough to have been able to purchase the real thing - lucky Europeans!!!
PorscheMeister - that is one COOL car you have there The ULTIMATE (in my eyes anyway)
Best,
Simon.
P.S. Jean - just got my GT PP - and read the article on your car - Congratulations- nicely written article.
