Default First EVO cams & now this !!

Urban Myths abound, first we have Graeme's stock '98 GT2 with its special mechanical EVO cams and now Sportec (on their brand new revamped web-site) reveal something special about the 450PS Porsche engine....

So there you have it, the Euro Turbo S 450PS engine has unique mechanical EVO cams AND twin spark ignition........ apparently

Perhaps they mean Porsche supplied twin ignition keys when they supplied the car

At least this "faux pas" is easy to confirm; just pop the engine on your average, run of the mill, common as muck GT2.

Just double checked. There is definately only one distributor. At some time in the near future when the rocker covers are off I'll take some pictures and that will confirm whether or not the 98 GT2 came with hydraulic or manual tappett adjustment and therefore high lift cams.

You really want to hope that what we are saying is right and you have stock '98 450PS hydraulic cams - I am currently having my valve clearances reset on my EVO (yes the real race cams ) cammed engine at the moment and it is a big job. If you use the car year round virtually everything near the turbos gets rotten due to the wet/salt/crap and the heat cycling - I had all new tin work etc just 18 months ago and it is all kaput. Mechanical cams on a twin turbo road car are an expensive hobby

BTW the arena red GT2 look 993tt in other thread is a stock 993tt with flares and GT2 kit - the headlight washers are a give away that it is not any sor of RS/RSR/GT2.............

The GT2's have no underseal protection so she won't go out unless the weathers fine. Don't mind a bit of rain but not salt etc. Plus I only have a 5000 mile limited mileage insurance policy which is still plenty of miles for me to loose my license in.

My engine is out getting new plugs, lifters adjusted and a leakdown. Likely gonna be needed every year. Tranny is getting rebuilt as well. Waiting for the heads to need replacement someday, that's gonna be a fun one..

I've tasted that one - it is not pleasant, it's not like adding bigger turbos, PSS9s or different cams.
"What do you mean the heads are worn out " ?

HP is certainly not inexpensive! Recent top end refresher, broken tensioner and obviously.. "while you're in there"

Geoffrey, I tried to fit it all

Stummel, have not driven the 996 RSR yet, it is in the UK waiting to be picked up when I have some time, and then it is going to your neighborhood
