I’m working on a deal for a new car and would like to sell my Guards Red / Tan '96 993TT first. It's a well maintained car with 93K miles. Paint is in great shape other than rock chips on the front bumper, no door dings or scratches. Interior is in great shape, 6 way heated power seats, upgraded radio and speakers. Stock wheels were professionally refinished a few month ago and tires are fresh (<1K rears, <6K fronts). Engine was redone by Porsche at 65K miles due to a factory machining problem on the heads (Porsche supplied all brand new heads), new clutch, pressure plate and a bunch of other stuff done at the same time. New steering rack installed a couple years ago, along with Gert's Bilstein HD suspension package (lowered to ROW-15mm) and FPB. Lots of other small stuff has been done also (fan resistors, rear wiper delete, all hood shocks, wire harness recall, etc). All maintenance is up to date with 3K mile Mobile 1 oil/filter changes. Hi Steve. It's been 4 years so it's time for something different. I kept my '91 C2 Turbo for 4 years too. I'm leaning towards a 996TT X50 this time. I want to sell my car first so I'll probably miss out on the one I'm looking at now. There are a lot more out there though. I'll be in San Diego most of next week. Do you know of any X50s for sale out there?

Guys, I've gotten a few inquiries on my car but nothing serious. Any opinions on the price or description? I'll probably do an Autotrader ad later today to get more exposure.

IMHO you will get a lot more serious interest in spring when people are in the market for sports cars. good luck. I know that will probably make it more expensive for your 996tt. if you can afford it get the new one now and flip the other in spring. you will save money...and have 2 toys to play with for a few months

A few people have asked about the engine work that was done on my car. Here is the story:
At 63K miles, the engine developed what sounded like an exhaust leak. After some diagnostics and then engine teardown, it was determined by the PCNA DSM that "cylinder head nuts (with built in washer) did not fully seat into recesses of some of the cylinder heads." Apparently, this was allowing the heads to lift and compression to leak. PCNA supplied 6 brand new heads as a "goodwill gesture". So, that was the cause for the work needing to be done. Since the engine was completely torn down, everything was checked and replaced as necessary. It seems that every gasket, oring, and seal was replaced. The invoice also lists piston rings, lifters, and a long list of other misc parts. Since the engine was out, the clutch, carrier plate, pressure plate, release bearing, guide tube, and pressure accumulator was replaced. The engine wire harness recall was also done at that time. All work was done by Porsche of Arlington and is well documented in the invoice.

I've seen a couple other threads recently about some low priced 993TTs needing a lot of work and having issues. That's not the case with mine. Its been my daily driver for 4 years and is perfectly maintained.

I've not had any serious interest from Rennlist so I guess I'll list it on Autotrader. Any other suggestions for getting it sold?

I think thats a deal.... 1/2 of the cost to a high mileage TT is the engine. You have addressed that already..The car looks very clean...

Nice car, you sure put alot of work into it too.
Here's my take; (take it for what it's worth) At 55k with 97k miles it will take a little while to sell I'm afraid, if time is not a factor it will work. The high miles, despite the engine work, will tend to scare some off. Remember, at 12yrs old certain forms of financing are not available, so a buyer would have to have the cash on hand, therein lies the issue with the high miles. If you are under a time constraint, maybe lower the price a bit(5-7k) and it should move. Buyers in the 50-60k range are also looking at a lot of very nice, low mile 996tts' too, competitive buyers market right now. GL on the sale and the x50, they are the bargain of the century right now.

Geesh I wish I was in the market. As a knowledgeable buyer now this would be the kind of deal I would want for a 993TT driver. Coming around the second time a buyer would know that the right things have been addressed on this turbo. Good luck.
