Hi Brian, it's strange the airbags didn't go off isn't it, i have no idea why that is, something faulty in the system maybe?

ACE, what a generous offer, i'll definitely take you up on that if Kevin is cool with it, i'll happily pay someone for it, it's looking like i'll need parts for that right side turbo so i'll be doing business with Kevin at some point. I'll send you a PM

Jean, I would have been a lot happier if the EBC thing wasn't ever on the engine, I'm concerned that someone has been running it at high boost levels. To be honest i have no idea how it works, does it work in conjunction with the ECU or does it allow the driver to simply put whatever boost level he desires into it and therefore potentially destroy the motor. Please tell me the ECU would still have enough control to safeguard the engine?
With regards to the turbos, i'll speak to my mechanic tomorrow and see if he can get that side of the system dismantled sooner rather than later, so i know what needs to be done and the parts i'll need to order etc.

Thanks for the replies chaps, much appreciated.

Strange indeed, given the damage. Strange too, that the post seems to have disappeared from PH. Wazzup?

Hi Brain, the thread delete is for a good reason but i won't go into it.
I'm learning more about the engine, it has had quite a bit of work done including manual tappets, sport cams, the K24's are up-rated units apparently, carrilos, the cats were 100 cell but as we know one is shot, i'm sure there is more and i'll keep digging. Looks like i've bought a bit of a monster

Kevin, you were right about the turbo, it's buggered! Broken housing and stuck impeller exactly as you said.
I have been informed that the turbos are not the standard K24 units, the person that informed me wasn't sure of the spec but something has been done with them. What is the best thing to do here, do i send off both turbos hoping that the broken one is fixable and that it can be brought up to the same spec as the left hand one, and also have the left hand one looked over to check the condition. Or do i have to get two new units?
Here is a pic of the broken turbo, and one of the bent headers, the headers and exhaust system say Phoenix or Phenix on them, are these aftermarket headers? I will need to replace the right hand one but don't want to mix match, and i could really do without having to by both! The costs are mounting!

Phoenix is a UK-based aftermarket manufacturer. I believe they sell products under the Cargraphic name in the US (could be the other way around?).

Hi JBL, you decided not to buy my old TT then, good to see you're on with a new project. Looks like a lot of work.

I've just bought a 964 to do just that, so you could sell the turbo's to me and spend the money with Kevin on some nice new ZC Turbo's

If you're after back boxes, Miltek do some great s/steel 993TT ones for around £600 the pair.

Phelix, thanks for the link, i'll bell them tomorrow

Ace, i'm going to go with muffler bypasses, i think i'll keep the CAT's though

Hi Jim, good to hear from you! You did say you were going to do something with a 964, have you laid your hands on a TT motor for it?
I really wanted your old car, I think it looked the business! The chap selling it wouldn't budge on price, even after admitting the gearbox was shot, i think it was news to him that it had been bent so many times too! Does he still have it?
Here are some pics i dug up after your cannonball run, for the right money i would of taken that car in a heart beat, i would have lost the interior though, not my favorite colour

I went to have a look at the engine today and it actually has the standard headers on it, the rest of the system is cargraphic though, albeit half is shot

Had a look at it without the cam covers on and it does have solid lifters

Can someone shed some light on the benefits of getting rid of the hydraulic lifters, thanks

It allows higher revs without breaking down. The lifters are terrible for a higher rev motor as the tappets just can't keep up and break down. The down fall is it is a bitch to adjust the valves on the TT motor with everything in place but on a higher rev motor it is a must.

So on a TT what constitutes high enough revs to warrant the PITA of solid lifters?

What, no solid lifters on the Andial?

That's an adjustment every 10 years for me

Power drops off at about 6200, so no reason to rev higher, therefore hydraulics. Turbos have to come off at plug change time anyway, so valve adjustment wouldn't be too much more trouble.
