Picked the car up today, quick? Yep! Overwhelmed? No....ummm, no (ish).....
It goes like stink there is no mistake, the 4 speed box does'nt help matters! It's by far the quickest it's ever been, i'm not blown away though.
Oil temps are low, it pulls well up to 160mph or so, it just doesn't pin me to the seat the way i thought it would. It has potential but it doesn't have me riveted!
I think a pair of K27's with external wastegates, some more work with the exhaust system and then i'll have the beast i'm looking for.
It's how it is for now, i'll do the run to Le Mans and see how i get on, i have a dyno day next Saturday so we can have a look at what the chassis dyno nonsense spits out, will get my hands on an AX22 to log some real world acceleration which should be more telling.
Just glad to have the old bugger back in the garage, i've owned this car for a little over 5 years and it's been in numerous "Specialists" for over half that time, it's a good job it's just a hobby otherwise i'd be suicidal!!!!..........

Jon
Didn't you just get it remapped ? what sort of numbers were they claiming ? if it is at ~450hp then with the weight it certainly should feel pretty overwhelming ?
Could it be the more linear twin turbo thrust compared to the single turbo light switch which is confusing your senses ?

Need the AX22 to check the reality Glad to hear you are back on the road

Something is wrong Toby, it's now only boosting to 0.5bar, i took it over to Paul at Northways and we changed one of the intercooler hoses as it looked iffy, didn't help, i'm taking it back to Paul next week and he can check it over and find the problem, Andy Fearns thinks it's probably a stuck diverter valve or something else on the intake side, it could be the seal under the intercooler or the air mass meter or something? We checked the actuators and they seam fine and the wastegates were closing. Andy is convinced it's not an ECU issue so it must be a component problem somewhere, we'll get to the bottom of it, it's a shame as i was enjoying having it back.

Anyone care to stab a guess at what it might be, it was only boosting to 0.4bar for a while and then it started to boost to 0.5, it's a bit odd. I am getting a few small backfires every now and again, it wasn't doing that when i picked it up?

Has the install been done such that you can read the diagnostics of the ECU to see what it thinks is going on?

Yes, but as coincidence would have it Northways diagnostics machine has broken and they are waiting to get a new hard drive for it. It has the port (OBD?) to plug into, that's how Fearnsport did the mapping on the road.
Do you think i could just go to any porsche place and they can plug in and see if there are error codes? Does it have to be porsche or does any diagnostic machine read the ECU?

Turns out the oxygen sensors were playing up, one totally failed and two others with intermittent fault, will replace all four to be safe. Probably didn't like being run with no cats, if this is the only teething issue i won't be too upset, should be ready tomorrow so i can go and break it again

JBL great to see that your car is now running. Once everythign works well, this car must be very very fast. Borrow a datalogger and test it.

Good luck.

Cheers Jean, will see if i can borrow James' AX22 off him as he's coming to the dyno day on Saturday, i've mentioned on another thread that i'm interested in Woodsters AX22 as you mentioned it's for sale.

The car is quick, well to be honest it was really quick when i first picked it up and then it just started to seam slower and slower, maybe the oxygen sensors were giving the ECU mixed signals and it just pulled boost and timing. It was a bit weird to be honest, it was like i got used to it really quickly if that makes sense?
Will post the dyno results for what their worth, more importantly i'll send you some files soon so you can see what's what with the 60-130mph, don't forget i'm still on the 4 speed box though and can't quite get 130mph in 3rd so it'll be two changes with 4th gear really bogging the engine down

JBL

I am confident that your acceleration numbers will be very good if the engine is running even in stock 408bhp form. As TB mentioned do not underestimate the smoothness of the dual turbos and how they can fool your peception of going fast.

With 245/45 x16 you should reach just ahead of 130 mph in third, let it hit the rev limiter.

Woodster has the AX22 for sale in his signature, I assume it still is ?

If you want to go this way, try and buy one done already. They are out there, which only proves I'm not totally insane.
What a great looking car. I tried to search back through your posts for photos of the work in progress.

Hi James, please do bring it with you. I've done a deal with Woodster to buy his so it'll be my last borrow!

Just got the car back, it's definitely quicker than when i first picked it up, it must have been getting false readings from the oxygen sensors.
I seam to be getting the odd push to 1.35bar in third gear, it boosts to 1.2bar in second and backs off to about 1.0bar at the top, i haven't had opportunity to go to the red line in 3rd yet but it goes rapidly up to 1.35bar and backs quickly off to 1.2ish and then i'm out of road.
It really is quick, i was taking my time when i picked it up originally, rush hour traffic, girlfriend in the car etc, the sensors must have started to malfunction before i had the opportunity to nail it properly. It's a beast now, will post the dyno stuff tomorrow when i have it.
Will the short blip up to 1.35bar cause me problems? I guess i'll see the actual boost on a graph tomorrow, i'm taking readings from the Andial clock replacement gauge, the one on the dyno should be more accurate.

Jon

I am very happy to read that it is all working out.

Now for the bad news. I don't know what setup you have currently but you need to upgrade your suspension and brakes, driving it this way is certainly not safe. Just keep it in mind.

You're right Jean, I need to fit some coil overs, i was planning on buying the RSR coil over package from Imagine Auto, the current set up is just new yellow Bilstein HD dampers with stock torsion bars, the car squats so badly under full power you end up looking at the horizon, definitely need to get this sorted!

The brakes aren't that bad, it's about as good as can be with the 16" wheels, the front calipers are on the rear and 993 calipers are on the front, it stops ok, not sure how it would cope coming down quickly from 170mph or so but for normal road use it's ok. I will go big reds all round when i get new wheels, or something similar.
The most important thing is the suspension at the moment, it simply can't handle the power as it is. Are there other alternatives to consider other than the IA RSR package?

Can anyone tell me if the short blip up to 1.35bar is anything to worry about?
