Default Brake Ducts Work?

Hello,

http://www.carnewal.com/

Sorry for the lame post, but I am curious if these things fit with bumperettes and actually provide light and cool the brakes (the link looks incomplete, but they are the the separate fog lights with ducts for the 993...not the Turbo S version that is so common). I know that for the poseurish way in which I use the car, heat is the primary issue for brakes...don't need bigger rotors, etc...not to mention that the stock fog lights look so dim and weak.

Would love any comments, install tips, etc.

Thank you.

Hi goatf, try the TechArt.
They are ready with ducts to ventilate brakes (most of them are cooling radiators, not brakes).
In addition they were often installed by Porsche Exclusive on early 993TT, therefore they are not odd for originality is concerned.

If you don't track your car you probably don't NEED the ducts. If you do track it they work really well.

There have been so many posts on these lights, if you have time do a search for techart fog lamps/lights you should get plenty of posts.

They are expensive, and not particularly well made, the light units are adapted vw hella units, you will need to trim the front PU down, and they will work with bumperettes. I have had them on both my 993's the units are expensive, poorly made but great, don't even go near the HK copy versions available through ebay and some porsche spares shops. They really do finish the front off, get some led bulbs if you have a HID kit installed and they look the business.

You don't have to fit the plumbing for the brake cooling if you aren't going to be heavy on the brakes, but the f/glass air vents will still provide some additional air flow over the oil cooler and AC condenser

IME they didn't help brake cooling but the piping did block air flow to the oil coolers. Switching to RS rear brakes helped a lot but I still boil SRF. I'd say it's a good mod if you skip the ducting and instead use them to increase flow to the oil coolers.

Mine definitely helped to cool the brakes at the track.

I've ordered some techart type from porsheshop.co.uk - yet to see for myself the quality or fit but @ under £200 I can afford to work on them.

Are you going to do it right and run the ducts through the front wheel wells so the air actually reaches your brakes?

Thanks all. I -of course- don't need these, or any mods for that matter...except maybe suspension. But you know how it is...new car...so excited...want to provide anything your new baby needs...blah, blah, blah. I am trying hard to calm down and just enjoy the car.

Yes, I've purchased 7ft of hose too.

Just a thought,

I have the real Turbo S ducts - and after lengthy brake issues and discussions with people that have wind tunnel access - the consensus is they MAY provide some flow - however the ducting needs tube at least 100mm (which I know is impossible) but the better way is to use GT3 RS style scoops to cool your brakes....

I believe R+C might want to chime in???

PS - I still use them - great way to cool my oil coolers though....

Simon.

I do just the opposite, I have a vacuum hooked up to mine to suck up the brake dust. Can't have dirty wheels can we
