$54,700 for a 1996 tt?

Wow, thanks everyone. I'm not in any hurry and have a lot to learn about these cars. I'm also considering a 996tt. Not nearly as pretty but I live in Phoenix and I hear the A/C in the 993 cars may struggle here in the summer. Also worried that the older car will mean more $$ to maintain. That said, I appreciate all the comments on the car in question. Would you guys recommned getting PPI by an independent shop or Porsche dealer?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The records on that Blue one were all from a local shop. Look the records over and maybe talk to them about the car.
The PPI question is personal preference. I think you have to find the most knowledgeable guy in your area on that car. And if they are at a dealer or Independent that would then make no difference. Just my .02

I just wanted to add, I like that color a lot. The interior is really sweet looking as well. If the car checks on the PPI, which I would take it to an independent, if it were me. I would seriously consider buying it.

yes, I appreciate eclou (and everybody's) comments. accumulator? boost leak? are those expensive repairs? I guess the PPI would tell me what would be involved and I could negociate on that. If this car were anything else, 55k miles would be nothing. I just need a reliable daily driver and don't want to have to pour money into it. I don't know what kind of work these cars would "commonly" need at this point in its life and I'll put about 8-10k miles a year on whatever I buy.

I am by NO MEANS raining on your parade but this is not IMHO a "I just need a reliable daily driver and don't want to have to pour money into it."
When I bought mine it passed all PPI tests and all the inspections I threw at it but it ended up costing me over 10k+ in the 8 months I owned it.
Fun? YOU BET.
Practical? Not so Much

Your in a difficult situation, alot of us buy older p-cars to drive 3-5k a yr, not a dd. If your set on a Porsche have a budget and it's your daily driver i would buy a 996 model. There is less chance for mega repairs and will be easier on your pocket.

Looking that way. The 996 tt, although not nearly as attractive, would probably be the better way to go, I'm just trying to see what those of you who own the 993 tt think.

My take is that the 993TT is just as robust as the 996TT (save the cracked radiator issues), so its more of a case of lower miles, newer car, possible warranty may steer one to the 996TT. For me, with 110k miles on Rufus, I'm delighted with my car.

993tt Daily Driver
I bought my 96tt with 44k miles as a daily driver 6 months ago. It passed the PPI, but I still budgeted $5k to sort it out. I have driven 4k trouble-free miles and have spent less than $500 on the car. I am sure it will all even out eventually, but these really are reliable cars and (knock on wood) don't have to be money pits.
