Default Slippery slope

Hooray the company firewall is letting me see the site for a change, so here's a rare posting!

This is where I start on the long slippery upgrading slope and inline with the long tradition of recycling parts. The well known RS ECU that has been through many hands in the UK(not least Very sideways, aceparts, Kenny) is now being installed along with the factory extra oil cooler(worlds smallest!) in my car. Cant wait to try the car out hopefully I will get the returns that Pete got.

I'm visiting from the NA side and man, I thought there was an end to the slope. I just keep finding things to do!

Thanks sfb, I should have said I have been about when I've had some private computer time, but mainly reading the posts and making the very rare response.

Regarding initial impressions more torque and acceleration in the higher rev range and the extra revs on the limiter makes a big difference in 1st and 2nd. It doesnt feel like I've got any over boost, or clutch slippage which I remember a few people had, but I'm only getting 0.8bar maximum and from memory I thought it peaked briefly at 1.0bar I need to do some searches on past postings, though it was 17C when I first drove it Saturday night.

Regards
Gordon

To detect the "overboost" hold it at between ~3000 and 4000rpm in 3rd gear upwards boot the throttle and hold it flat. As the revs quickly hit ~4500rpm the boost should overboost a little to maybe 1 to 1.1 bar. It is easier to detect in 6th where it will overboost anywhere in the rev range from 4000 to ~5750 using the above method - but maybe a little illegal

I have attached the printout from my test day at Janspeed where the car was moving(inched forward) when it hit the 4000rpm even though it was held down by 10 straps. It was the highest torque number they have ever had! I'm
presuming its overboosting as it only has the RS ECU in thats been in quite a few UK cars( verysideways, aceparts, kenny).
Any input would be appreciated.........

Perhaps I'm particularly thick today but what do the two pairs of lines represent; the legends aren't readable? And torque may peak at 4200 rpm but peak horsepower won't happen until probably 6K or more yet the runs end at 4300?

You won't see it on a Dynojet.. Not enough engine load.. The dyno runs were how long???

Thanks for sharing. I am going to post some thoughts in the "Dyno Tests" thread seeing as your run is very pertinent

Phelix
sorry should have said that I didnt get the full standard test as the car creeping on the rollers scared Janspeed and they shut down at 4000 rpm.

The two trails are the two seperate attempts, which are remarkably close. The top two lines are the torque lines which beat everything on there wall of fame the second two lines are the BHP. I'm very confused by how high the torque figures are and would be interested if any of the previous owners have any charts.

It's overboosting as it did in my car. You need the 100cell cats for this ecu to work correctly. From memory the wastegates need winding in a bit too.

What does "overboosting" mean in relation to the above

If the dyno run was completed and it peaked at ~5750rpm ~430/440PS with usual dip at 5200rpm after peak torque then how is there a problem ?

I read "overboost" as being a problem when the ECU interupts the spark (I still get this occasionally at peak torque -it is a function of the wastegate actuation being too slow for the ECU signal)

The inflated Dynojet peak torque number is a red herring - it means nothing

Get yourself a decent boost gauge so that you can monitor the boost under load in 4th or 5th. The factory gauge won't read above 0.8 bar; your ECU should almost certainly be allowing more.
