I appreciate cracks are inevitable with the cross drilled discs, but are you doing a cool down lap before coming in? This along with removing the accumulated pad dust from the holes with a twist drill between track days helps to extend the life of my discs.

try slotted floating rotors in the stock size first. i have had these last 3x longer than OEM drilled rotors with Pagid Blacks. i have a set that was never used if interested. cost 1300 new will sell for no less than 900. they are still in the box.

I heard that Movit (German company movit.de) makes ceramic brakes also for 993TTs. Does anyone know about these? They are 50% lighter than stock and has also many other advantages..
I have written to them and asked more info but they haven't answered yet.

Clubsport - yes am doing a cool down lap (of the track and the pits too) brake dust is vacuumed out before every track day.

Andy - what sort of rotors are they? Standard size obviously - are the hats re-usable?

JS - Ceramic rotors? Lighter is one thing - but with all the issues associated - are you sure you want to run them?

Tell me more about your 370mm kit!!! I am very interested - post some pics?

Thanks again guys,

Simon.

Movit's ceramic rotors are newest technology and different than others. They use complicated carbon-carbon manufacturing process. Weight saving would be approx. 6 kilos per corner.. that would be much.. but their price is very absurd
See more from webpage:
http://www.movit.de/htm/ceramic.htm

My heavy iron rotor versions are very cool looking. Disks are biggest what you can fit inside to original 18" wheel. Diameter 370mm. Caliber is 6 piston version. Between caliber and wheel is 2mm gap
See picture..

..and these are much cheaper than Brembos..

Hmm,

Wow - they only JUST fit too! They look great - Please report back how well they work?

As for cheaper - the front kit alone - from their distributer here is over $9000.00 !!!!

Makes for a LOT of standard rotors....

i have slotted 322mm floating rotors up front stockers in the rear. i have one set of fronts left that are still in the box. they cost double of what OEM rotors go for. but once they wear out you re-use the hat. So the cost is close to OEM fronts. They last about 2 times longer maybe more. also they are lighter

As a side note on rotor wear, I've found that if I season (heat treat) my rotors by driving them on the street for the first 200 miles and then do a final, more aggressive, heat treatment before putting on the trace pads. The final treatment goes like this:

1. get up to 60MPH
2. using medium brake effort slow to 20MPH
3. repeat 4 times
4. let brakes completely cool
5. repeat above but get to 80MPH and use heavy braking

Next day I throw on the brake pads and repeat the above to bed them in; this I do before each track day if I drove the car on the street between track days.

This can almost double the life of a rotor.

Simon,
I went the Cup Car option on my 996TT
Initial bite is not as good as my GT3's was....which surprised me.
Haven't been back to the track to comment on sustained braking...

RS is gone Congrats

I remember a thread recentlythat rubbished StopTech - until the Pres stood up to say something. Not sure about if they are supported in AU - so would prefer to stick to Brembo/Porsche for ease of replacement...

My main issue is wear AND stopping...

I will soon be on to my 3rd set of front rotors this year - I run Pagid Blacks F&R as pads and have tried ducting - still running out of brakes after 15 mins and wearing like CRAZY - any thoughts??? FLAME AWAY!!

Simon.
Simon,

What brake cooling have you fitted?

Paul,

RS is gone - Was made an offer we couldn't refuse.... Thanks for the help with that - I will be in QLD in a few weeks visiting Terry - we should at least have a coffee?
Looks like I will be going with a similar set up - Will report back.

Magnus - I was using some under car ducting - but I am an un-ashamed ripple strip jumper - and was continually ripping them off..... the odd OTE didnt help either! Didnt really notice a difference in wear?

When I decide on what I am going to run - I was going to try the ducting through the bumper with the OEM ducts and another attempt at getting the under car stuff right....
