Default exhaust filling ring, which side is smooth?

Putting the exhaust back on my car and I see that the porsche manual states that the exhaust filling ring should be replaced with the smooth side facing the catalytic converter. My question is, do they mean the flat side, which has a little lip at the edge? Or the round side with no lip?

The lip needs to face the cat!!

If you place the lip in the groove you almost have to chisel it out.. The lip digs into the groove.

Again install the smooth round side in the groove and have the lip facing out..

Also take a small amount of white lithium grease and coat the oring and flange surface. It will aid in sealing.. Use a small amount..

Mine were installed as per the manual and after 10 years and 60K miles popped out with a slight tap of a screwdriver...

And thanks Felix.

Went with lip out. I'll update when I take it all apart again (hopefully not).

The manual has errors once in a blue moon with the translation to English..

I have been around the block to take "virgin" units off of cars and have seen the factory placement of the rings.. Similar for the 996TT.
