Default please confirm: tires and wheels for my '96 TT

Can a lister please confirm for me that I have the rght stuff here before I pull the trigger. My car is a 96 993 TT and I wanted a set of 996 turbo wheels.

I found the following, and from all my research it looks like the right stuff... can you please verify for me??

Wheels:
Front wheel is 18x8/et50 996.362.136.04
Rear wheel is 18x11/et45 996.362.142.11

Tires:
Bridgestone SO2A / N3 Porsche spec - F 225/40/18 -
R 295/30/18 - Treadwear 140 - Traction A - Temp A.

Thanks
Danny Shapiro

I would go up to at least 235 in the front...alot of folks say using the 225/295 combinatiion, you will be 'under-tire'.

Danny,

I can't tell from the part numbers... are those 996 TT wheels hollow spokes or solids? The hollows are quite a bit lighter and more highly valued. And I agree with Tony... if you can, try to get a wider front tire. I use 255/305.

Danny you have the right wheels/tires.

If I can throw my opinion, you will be better off with 235s up front (I like 245s) but if it is for street usage I would not worry about it, I would not spend the extra money until the tires are worn out and it is time to replace them.

If you feel some mild understeer, and if you have stock suspension and sway bars, get the tire pressures closer to each other Fr and Rr. With my tires and roads, 38Fr/38Rr cold on the stock 993TT works great for me.

Thanks Guys.!

I believe these to be the hollow spoke 996 wheels and they look to be correct from everything I have read... just wanted to get a verification before I made the same mistake another has already learned from.

These wheels come with these tires for $800... so I won't bitch too much about 'em and would like to wear 'em out before I retire them.

Jean's point about playing with the air pressures to balance the ride is well taken. The car is mostly stock with bilstein hds and eibachs.

Now if I could get my buddy to stop smoothing and re-smoothing the rs front splitters and nb bumper cover .... and spray them midnite blue.. .then I will have a runner...

Thanks!

I recently got a set a week ago that also has 225 upfront for a lil less than you did. I think they all come with 225 from what I've seen on ebay and elsewhere.

smddanny & TRINITONY: Where did you guys find a set of hollow spokes with tires for $800? I wouldn't mind getting a set for next winter.

$700 to be exact, with caps and in MINT condition. Tires only have a couple k miles left on them though.

Ebay is where I got mine, and I've seen some pretty good deals also on 6speed.

I also found a set of 996 hollow spokes on Ebay. I purchased for $800 a set with 4500 miles on them .. so the rears are about 1/3 done.

I needed to refinish my 993 wheels and the rear tires would be done in another 4,000 miles, so a complete set-up in better condition made sense.

Good thing they made a lot of 996s !!!!!

Best,
Danny Shapiro

I dont know how it is in that part of the country but we'd love for someone to call and setup an oil change. They ask when can they bring it down, we say how soon can you get here. Also, I don't think winter has gotten the memo about it being spring time. Just won't leave us alone to have a nice week.
