Default Newbie to rennlist and new 1996 933tt owner

Hi everyone, what a great place this is. I just joined rennlist today and this is my first post. I am a new 1996 993tt owner and have seen many references to a ppi. Can some one please fill me in on what that is.

My car has been in the family since new and has only been driven 3k since 1999 and has 18k total. Last week I had the oil changed and brake flush, 15k service was done in 1999. I have been taking it to the local Porsche dealer, the tech seems knowledgeable. Can anyone advise good service shops in the Detroit Michigan area as an alternative to the dealer.

Current issues are the passenger door lock actuator seems seized and won't allow the doors to lock. (dealer ordered part for $118) Have service appt a week from Friday to: fix door lock, program second key, check airbag light that stays on for 3 plus minutes after starting the car (is this normal), re-install the stock mufflers, car has bypass pipes now and it is to loud for my tastes.

Thanks for letting me talk about my car. Am I the only one that walks into the garage at all hours and just looks at their car.

Best Regards,

David

I know what you mean about the by pass pipes, i had to install mufflers also, i recommend cargraphic or fvd mufflers, stock is very restrictive, also a ppi mean pre purchase inspection/inspector before a car is bought that is used its important ot have one done by a knowledgeable porsche tech that knows turbos. Also i am not sure about your airbag light, good thing the dealer is close, and also i find myself staring at it forlonger than normal as well. the first thing i d do with your car once its sorted is to lower it with billstein pss9, you'll notice a big difference, especially if you r running stock springs and shocks. welcome to best board on rennlist, your car is stunning. Let the mods begin

all the best

A PPI is a Pre-Purchase Inspection. The mechanic would inspect known-to-fail items, perform compression and leakdown tests, and give the car a good going-over. These are usually done at independent shops, I assume because inflated resale values would benefit Porsche. Welcome, you're bound to learn a lot about your car if you stick around.

EDIT: SF and I must've posted at the same time.

Kern is who has been working on the car, great to hear. I felt he really knew what he was doing. Thanks for the confirmation. We are in Oakland Twp.

Best Regards,

David

David, Sorry I did not say hi earlier but I was just in the garage looking at my car --- which looks very much like your car

Welcome to the site. I joined recently and it has been a wealth of information, and it keeps me out of the garage late at night.

Get the car out of the garage and drive it like you stole it.

Default 18K = 24K Gold in my books...

Hey David, Only 18k miles Unbelievable! I just turned 77k on my 96tt, I drive it almost every day.

I have 2 Ps in a pod that I visit nightly translation - a 934.5 racer and my 96tt sittin' all pretty in the garage.

It is hard not to get a little rise in my bp when grabbing a brewski outa the fridge.

Welcome aboard!

Rob
