Default Smoking on start up

Just interested to know whether how many experience smoking on initial start up of their TTs.

Mine does for about 45secs to a minute...........then is OK

Absolutely no oil leaks anywhere and does not smoke at any other time.

Also only if the engine is cold.

How many miles on your car? How many miles on the turbo units? Do you cool them before shutting down? Has it always done this or did you have a recent oil change?

Common for the filters to be bad if this just started after an oil change.

Read the "sticky" thread at the top of the 993 turbo forum page posted by Kevin.

BTW Steve, Kelly sais "Hi"

Hi guys........turbos and car have only 16000 miles since new.

I bought the vehicle one month ago and it had just had a 12 month service with oil change obviously.

Cooling down ? How long would I idle to allow cool down...as I have not done this since I've had the TT.

Like Eric said above, the oil filter which was installed during 12k mile service could be bad. The sticky thread posted by Kevin @ Ultimate is a must read for 993tt owners...

I let the car idle for a minute or 2 everytime. A little more if at the track.

You want to warm the car up before getting on it too. keep it under 4200 RPM's till the oil and motor warms up. A little over the first hash mark on the oil temp gauge or about 5 minutes. You can hear the oil running under the car.

......thanks for that.

The TT is actually going in shortly to have a few upgrades crried out, including turbo upgrade, clutch, light flywheel, sport cams, Fabspeed exhaust system, performance air ntake fuel regulator, GT oil cooler, ECU re-mapped.

At that time I will get everything looked at regard the oil filter and related things that might have been causing this minor problem.

A little advice.. I think that it would be wise to find out the cause of your oil/smoking now prior to your upgrade.. It would be a shame to trash your new turbochargers if you don't fix the symptoms/problems now..

Btw, you mentioned recent oil change, check if it has a bit too much oil in it.

I went through this twice after oil changes, and each time it was a bad oil filter seal. Do you still have the pan under the engine?

Hi Stummel,
Using the Fabspeed Hi Performance air intake system...$175

Checked oil level with engine idling and it was to the max or full mark.

Maybe that's all the problem might be as some seem to think that levels should be kept about midway !
