Video of 993tt cammy start -for anoraks only
Plunging to new depths of anorakism I wanted to share my engine's cold start routine with fellow air cooled petrol heads - It makes me grin like a schoolboy every time I start it TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8gvkmY5eSs
RS made 3 sets of custom spec cams which were tested on the engine dyno before settling on a set for my current configuration, they are non hydraulic, similar to EVO M64/83s, after this cold start routine the ECU settles to a idle of between 880 and 980 rpm - The combination of higher compression ratio ~8.5:1 and bigger 3.8 capacity means the car is easier than stock starting off in 1st.

Very impressive sound! And humbling too. You mentioned that these cams were dyon;s - can you share the numbers and also the cam lift and duration?
Reminds me of Joe's ridiculous Flachbau twin turbo machine.
Congrats! I love it! Your car is definitely one of my favorite 993TTs!

Thanks for the positive feedback, I was worried that I had stepped over the edge of geekiness posting this, but glad to see there are similar nut cases out there
slownrusty
The specifics of the cam profiles would not be any use to you even if I knew them. The original cams fitted to the engine were RS's version of the EVO cam, apparently various timings were tested but whilst he got the peak power as high as he wanted almost immediately it was the lower end which was not to his liking. Another set of cams was made and tested beofre a final set gave the desired result.
I don't like putting numbers on here but suffice to say it has 96% of its peak power between 5100rpm and 7000rpm.

nice!
by the way, you can start your car without pushing the clutch in? there must be a switch on the clutch I can bypass so that I can do that too... off to the garage to take a look....

And yes, you stepped over the edge. But no problemos about that, we are all standing on the other side of the edge waiting for you

I think that 1996 cars didn't have that clutch switch... Rufus can be started by simply turning the key.
Toby,, what a great audio track. Geeks and Porsche nitwits rejoice.

Holy cr@p! That car sounds just like mine, if you close your eyes you would not even recognize them!!! What an amazing sound.
And BTW, you have serious problems. Still sure you don't want the help-line number?
Great video.

Thats pure ****! I was gobsmacked! A few questions though:
-Does the car drone badly?
-Was it you revving the car? Is the idle suppose to hunt like that?
-What kind of power and torque are you doing?
-Any chance of posting a video of a drive by?
I'd really like drive one of those things...

Anyone else got a cold start?
Kiko
You know RS engines don't drone and the beauty of the 911 is you can have a crazy motor out back and the noise just disappears behind you. I think the reving is part of the cold start program, it does it by itself - I love it
Jean
I have that number -it ends 466
Rassel
The exhaust has big tubing 130mm cats (or at least the housings ) and Cargraphic race mufflers and is completely drone free.
