Default New Tach Face

OK, best hour I’ve spent on my car so far. Thanks to AiRick and sfbanchs for the help with contact info. Rhonda at FVD was most helpful. She told me that the silver gage faces were just a bit darker than the stock aluminum faces I have on the car. She lied. No one can tell a difference in color between the two. I think she was being overly cautious with me. I almost didn’t get the gage because of what she told me, but she assured me the difference was minor and sometimes varied with stock. Way cool!

md11plt,

Oh yes, oh yes. That's exactly what I want to do with my standard black tach face. Can you PLEASE describe where you got the face, do they make it in black, and how the heck you install it. That looks great. Me want.

I just checked the FVD web site and did not see any in Black. They do have a Tach face without the computer cutout, but the numbers are too big to make the cutout yourself. You could check with Gemballa, but you might have to buy the whole package. I got lucky as FVD had a few of the colored Tach faces by themselves. $30.00 on clearance! They are showing Silver, White, Red, and Yellow as available.

As for the installation, I used the 993DIY instructions. Very easy to do. It was actually a lot easier than the instructions make you believe. Of course, I only did the Tach, the other gages may pose more of a problem, although I doubt it. Heck, Steve, if you send me the Tach and the gage, I'll put it in for you if you'd like.

sfbanchs, did you get yours installed? Did you go with MPH or Kph? Any pics?

I just won a CDR 220 on EBAY, so that's my next project!

md11plt,
Can you please post some more pics of your interior? Am interested to see what contrasts you have done with the grey leather.

Looks good, however I was told that the amber is a different hue at night when you have your dash lights on?? Is that correct? Something with the numbering stencil being slightly off? I have been thinking about this upgrade..

911 addict, I haven't done much else to the interior. I did paint the switch housing grey, but that was only because I don't much care for the CF there and the plastic looked out of place. It is basically Classic Grey with the CF package. I will take some more pics tomorrow and post them.

Kevin, the Orange at redline (7200RPM BTW instead of the correct 6800) is much more dull. Not the vibrant of the stock gage. You can see the difference in the pic when compared to the oil gages. The lighting is a bit different as well. The colors are slightly different, but the biggest thing is that the gage is not lit at the bottom at all. You don't start seeing any numbers until 3000RPM.

After Kevin ruined my high yesterday , I decided the redline color was too far off. Went to Office Max and found some label tape to make new lines with. Won't help the night time sitch, but looks GOOD in the daylight!

I had the gage out and in my hand in less than five minutes this time! I have enough tape for about 3 million gages.

How do you find the night time illumination of the gauge. The bulbs are at 9 and 3 o'clock meaning the 3 o'clock bulb is contributing just about nothing. At least that's my experience.

You are right about the night time. You don’t get any light between the 1 and 3, the 5 is almost blinding, and as you get to the top it fades again. Putting the dayglo stickers on for the redline didn’t help that. The needle still lights up the same.

I don’t drive the car at night up here too often. Too many big creatures wander out onto the highway after dark. If I do drive at night, it is always very cautiously and I don’t get anywhere near redline. The light from the 5 digit is a bit distracting, but well worth what you get during the day.
